Job summary

Caturus Energy in Houston, TX is seeking a SCADA Technician to design, configure, and maintain SCADA screens across upstream production facilities. You will ensure alarms are correctly configured and that field data reflects real conditions.

Based in the Houston office with occasional site visits, you will collaborate with Automation, I&E, Measurement, and Maintenance teams to verify mappings and support commissioning and troubleshooting.

Job Description

Caturus Energy is seeking a SCADA Technician to support the design, configuration, and integrity of SCADA systems across upstream production facilities. This role is responsible for building and maintaining SCADA screens/HMIs, configuring alarms in accordance with Company standards, and working closely with field Automation, Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E), and Measurement teams to verify end-device point-to-point register mapping.

The SCADA Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that field data displayed in SCADA accurately reflects real-world equipment conditions, that alarms are configured correctly and consistently, and that new wells, facilities, and equipment are properly commissioned into the SCADA system. While based in the Houston office, this role coordinates extensively with field-based personnel and may require occasional site visits to support commissioning, troubleshooting, or verification activities.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead with Safety
  • Make safety a foundational consideration in all SCADA configuration, alarm setup, and commissioning decisions.
  • Follow and support company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure critical safety and shutdown alarms are configured, tested, and verified prior to well/facility Placed-on-Production (POP).
  • Support Stop Work Authority by escalating configuration or data-integrity concerns promptly.
• SCADA Screen Development & Configuration
  • Build, update, and maintain SCADA screens for wellsite, facilities, wells, separators, heater treaters, tanks, compression, and other production equipment.
  • Design SCADA displays that clearly and accurately represent field equipment status, process values, and alarm conditions.
  • Maintain consistency in naming conventions, symbology, and screen layout across the SCADA system in accordance with Company standards.
  • Update SCADA screens to reflect facility changes, new equipment installations, and decommissioned assets.
• Point-to-Point Verification & Register Mapping
  • Work directly with field Automation, I&E, and Measurement teams to perform point-to-point verification of end devices against SCADA register mapping.
  • Confirm that RTU/PLC register addresses, scaling, and engineering units correctly correspond to the physical field device.
  • Identify and correct discrepancies between field device readings and SCADA-displayed values.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of register maps, tag lists, and I/O assignments for each site.
• Alarm Configuration & Management
  • Configure SCADA alarms - including priority, type, calculation logic, and setpoints - in accordance with the Company's Mandatory SCADA Alarm Standard.
  • Coordinate with Production Engineering and Production Supervision to confirm alarm setpoints prior to POP.
  • Maintain the alarm master database, including documentation of any setpoint changes or deviations.
  • Support alarm rationalization efforts by identifying nuisance, chattering, or misconfigured alarms.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a key point of coordination between the SCADA/Engineering teams and field Automation, I&E, Measurement, Maintenance and Production Operations personnel.
  • Communicate clearly with field technicians during commissioning, troubleshooting, and verification activities.
  • Partner with third-party SCADA providers and integrators on system configuration and issue resolution.
  • Support Control Room Operators and Production teams by ensuring SCADA screens and alarms provide accurate situational awareness.
• Commitment to Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve SCADA screen design, alarm configuration, and verification processes.
  • Recommend improvements to standard templates, tag-naming conventions, and configuration practices.
  • Participate in post-event reviews related to SCADA or alarm performance and contribute lessons learned.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by seeking guidance when needed and pursuing ongoing technical development.
  • Practice humility and remain open to alternative approaches, feedback, and guidance.

Qualifications

Education, Certificates, and Licenses:

• High school degree or equivalent required.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in SCADA configuration, automation, or a related technical field within upstream oil and gas.
• Previous experience building SCADA screens/HMIs in a production environment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of upstream production equipment, including wells, separators, heater treaters, tanks, compression, and instrument air systems.
• Experience with point-to-point verification, register mapping, or RTU/PLC I/O configuration is a plus.
• Proficiency with SCADA platforms, HMI development tools, specifically AVEVA/Wonderware.
• Understanding of alarm management principles, including alarm priority, rationalization, escalation and setpoint configuration.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, instrument lists, and electrical/instrumentation drawings.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across field and office-based teams.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating across multiple teams.
• Occasional travel to field locations for commissioning or verification support may be required.
• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, with occasional visits to field locations in a variety of Texas weather conditions.
