EverLine is seeking an experienced Electrical EMS/SCADA Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) infrastructure supporting our generation and transmission assets. This role is responsible for the reliability, security, and performance of real‑time monitoring and control systems, including tag configuration, historian integration, HMI/dashboard development, and field device communications (RTU/Modbus/DNP3). The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with hands‑on SCADA platform experience and a working knowledge of NERC reliability and cybersecurity requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the lifecycle management of SCADA systems, including design, implementation, upgrades, testing, and maintenance.
- Ensure SCADA system availability, data accuracy, and cybersecurity compliance with NERC CIP and company standards.
- Coordinate with operations staff to ensure SCADA system functionality supports real‑time operational decision‑making.
- Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems (Ignition SCADA preferred) including tag structures, alarm configuration, and Perspective/HMI dashboards for generation and substation monitoring
- Develop and troubleshoot RTU/PLC communications using Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, and IEC 61850 protocols
- Manage historian database integration (SQL Server, PelicanSQL, or similar) for production, fault, and event data
- Support Energy Management System functions including state estimation, real‑time contingency analysis, and monitoring of System Operating Limits (SOLs) and Interconnection Reliability Operating Limits (IROLs)
- Perform bulk tag creation, imports, and data mapping using scripting tools (Python, system. Tag. configure, CSV‑based workflows)
- Collaborate with protection and controls engineers on relay integration, telemetry validation, and alarm rationalization
- Support NERC compliance activities related to CIP (cybersecurity), TOP, PRC, and FAC standards as they apply to SCADA/EMS systems
- Troubleshoot real‑time data issues including epoch/timestamp handling, communication faults, and historian performance
- Participate in commissioning and testing of new generation assets (renewable & fossil) and their integration into SCADA/EMS
- Maintain documentation including network diagrams, point lists, tag databases, and system configuration guides
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Personal Characteristics
- Strong knowledge of SCADA systems architecture, protocols (DNP3, ICCP, Modbus), and cybersecurity requirements.
- Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards (CIP).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical information into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, IT, and compliance teams.
- Strong leadership skills for program management, including budget, schedule, and resource coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience with SCADA/EMS systems in a utility, generation, or industrial environment
- Hands‑on experience with Ignition SCADA (or comparable platforms such as OSI PI, GE iFIX, Survalent, OSIsoft)
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols: Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA
- Experience with relational databases (SQL Server) and historian systems
- Understanding of electrical power systems fundamentals (one‑line diagrams, protection schemes, substation equipment)
- Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards, particularly CIP
- Proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language (Python preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience in power system planning, SCADA systems, or control center operations.
- Demonstrated experience with SCADA system deployment, maintenance, and/or integration with grid operations.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards relevant to SCADA
- Must be willing to work extended hours, participate in on‑call rotations, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- NERC CIP Background check
Preferred Qualifications
- 5–7 years of combined experience in SCADA management.
- NERC certification (RC, TOP, or NERC credentials).
- Previous experience with RTO/ISO planning processes and interconnection procedures.
- Experience with wind or solar generation facility SCADA integration
- Familiarity with Ignition's Perspective module for HMI/dashboard development
- Experience with 32‑bit float handling, register mapping, and analog scaling for RTU integration
- Knowledge of ISO/RTO market telemetry requirements (SPP, MISO, ERCOT, WECC)
- Experience supporting NERC CIP cybersecurity documentation and audits
- PE license (or actively pursuing) a plus
