Job summary

Woodard & Curran is seeking a dynamic SCADA Controls Automation Project Engineer to support water and wastewater projects across New England, including Massachusetts. You will lead SCADA project lifecycles, design control systems, and coordinate with project managers and field personnel to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations.

The role involves travel to client sites, startup oversight, and delivering robust automation solutions using Allen-Bradley PLCs and modern HMI platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in control system integration with emphasis on SCADA/PLC hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead SCADA project lifecycles from planning through completion with PMs and operations staff.
  • Interact with municipal clients as trusted advisor and report project status.
  • Travel to job sites to supervise SCADA startup and lead pre-construction meetings.
  • Design and implement process control systems and PLC/HMI upgrades.
  • Develop SCADA master plans and system architecture options with cost estimates.

Job Overview

This national company seeks a dynamic, client‑focused SCADA Controls Automation Project Engineer to join the Water Team and support projects across New England, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The role involves developing, implementing and managing water, wastewater, remediation and some industrial projects, with a focus on automation and control systems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead SCADA project lifecycles from planning through completion in collaboration with project managers, technical managers and operations staff.
  • Interact regularly with municipal clients, serving as a trusted advisor and keeping them and project managers informed of project status.
  • Travel to job sites to oversee SCADA startup, lead pre‑construction and kickoff meetings, and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Design, review and implement process control systems and PLC/HMI upgrades and optimizations.
  • Develop SCADA master plans and system architecture options, including cost estimates for migration paths.
  • Coordinate with Practice Leadership and Project Managers on new SCADA opportunities and develop technical content for proposals.
  • Provide technical oversight of subcontractors and vendors and manage the configuration, testing and commissioning of SCADA components.
  • Train operations personnel on SCADA hardware, software and troubleshooting.
  • Perform QA/QC for design deliverables and controls code.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed and promote a safe work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in control system integration, with extensive knowledge of Allen‑Bradley PLC hardware and software (other PLC experience is a bonus).
  • Experience with Allen‑Bradley FactoryTalk, Schneider Wonderware, Ignition, GE Proficy, iFix and other HMI packages (other HMI experience is a bonus).
  • Hands‑on experience configuring and developing graphics for OITs such as Allen‑Bradley PanelView and Automation Direct C‑More.
  • Proficiency in automated reporting software (e.g., SyTech’s XLReporter, HachWims).
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and experience with instrumentation typical of the water and wastewater industry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bonus: PE License, CAP certification, computer networking, higher programming languages (VB, C++, Java, Python), or water/wastewater industry experience.
  • PE License or CAP (Certified Automation Professional) is a bonus.
