Job summary

SAIC in Bedford, IN is seeking a Technical Writer I to develop technical documentation for US Navy programs. You will gather information from SMEs and engineers to produce manuals, user guides, ETMs, IETMs, SOPs and reports.

Responsibilities include researching data, desktop publishing, creating diagrams, editing for accuracy and government style compliance, maintaining trackers and records, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet tight schedules and customer needs.

Qualifications

• HS diploma and at least 3 years of related experience.
• US citizenship and interim clearance with ability to obtain secret clearance; SAIC sponsors.
• Strong writing, editing, and documentation formatting skills.
• Experience with MIL-STD-40051E or similar, and government style guides.

Responsibilities

SAIC is seeking a Technical Writer I for the US Navy in Bedford, IN.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The technical writer will develop technical documentation that incorporates information and data from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), engineers, and other departments.

• Technical manuals and user guides
• Installation, operation, and maintenance manuals
• Test procedures and work instructions

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Writing high-quality documentation that complies with corresponding standard (e.g., MIL- STD-40051E), style guide, and/or directive and meets the customers' and end users'
• Needs. Documentation includes but is not limited to Electronic Technical Manuals (ETMs), Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), curriculum, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Computer Based Training (CBT), and reports
• Researching, collecting, analyzing, organizing, and preparing technical information and data
• Performing desktop publishing support (e.g., format and layout) for technical documentation
• Manipulating illustrations and photographs to be included in documentation
• Creating and revising charts, diagrams, flowcharts, etc. to be included in documentation
• Editing technical documentation for format, accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to government specifications
• Creating and maintaining trackers for developing, planning, and scheduling purposes
• Maintaining records
• Performing clerical/administrative duties as assigned such as file management and recording and distributing meeting minutes

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• HS diploma and 3 years of related experience.
• Interim clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain a secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process
• Candidate must be a US Citizen
• Proficient in desktop publishing with abilities to format/layout text
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Effectively collaborate with a variety of teams and interested parties
• Ability to work with strict deadlines/timeframes
• Ability to make recommendations and answer questions to customers
• Experience with DOD industry
• Experience with MIL-STDs and GPO Style Manual
• Proficient with Microsoft products to include PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
• Experience with Adobe FrameMaker and/or PTC Arbortext
• Experience with Adobe products to include Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with IADS
• Experience with Notepad++ Experience with Microsoft Teams, Excel, Project, and Visio
• Experience with ASD-STE100, Simplified Technical English (STE)
• Experience with xml schema and development of xml files and scripts
• Experience with provisioning data
• Experience with configuration management

Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
