Job description

The SBA Servicing & Liquidation Specialist is responsible for overseeing the post-closing servicing, monitoring, workout support, liquidation coordination, and SBA compliance management of Washington Trust Bank's SBA loan portfolio. This role serves as the subject matter expert for SBA servicing requirements and works closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, Loan Operations, Special Assets, and Legal to preserve SBA guaranties while minimizing portfolio risk.

The Specialist ensures all servicing and liquidation activities are conducted in accordance with SBA SOP requirements, Bank policies, and regulatory expectations while delivering exceptional internal and external customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
SBA Portfolio Servicing:
  • Review and process SBA servicing actions in accordance with current SBA SOPs, SBA Servicing & Liquidation Matrix requirements, and bank policy.
  • Evaluate and document servicing requests including:
    • Payment deferments
    • Loan modifications
    • Maturity extensions
    • Assumptions
    • Collateral substitutions
    • Releases of collateral
    • Subordinations
    • Changes in ownership
    • Borrower/Guarantor changes
  • Maintain proper servicing documentation and SBA approval requirements.
  • Provide guidance to lenders and portfolio managers regarding SBA servicing regulations aligning them with bank requirements.
  • Coordinate required SBA notifications and approvals through E-Tran and SBA servicing centers.
  • Monitor annual review requirements, covenant compliance, insurance coverage, UCC continuations, and other servicing obligations.
Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management:
  • Identify loans exhibiting signs of deterioration, delinquency, or default.
  • Assist with portfolio reviews and watch-list monitoring.
  • Develop action plans with Relationship Managers and Special Assets personnel to address emerging credit risk.
  • Track borrower performance and identify trends that may impact portfolio quality.
  • Maintain servicing ticklers and exception reporting systems.
SBA Liquidation & Workout Administration:
  • Coordinate SBA liquidation activities for problem loans.
  • Assist in developing workout, liquidation, and recovery strategies.
  • Prepare and submit:
    • Universal Purchase Packages
    • Litigation Plans
    • Liquidation Plans
    • Charge-Off Packages
    • Wrap-Up Reports
    • Offer in Compromise documentation
  • Ensure all SBA timelines and reporting requirements are met.
  • Monitor liquidation expenses and recovery efforts.
  • Work with Special Assets, legal counsel, appraisers, auctioneers, and other third parties throughout the liquidation process.
  • Assist in preserving SBA guaranties by ensuring compliance with servicing and liquidation requirements.
SBA Compliance & Quality Control:
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of SBA SOP 50 10, SOP 50 57, procedural notices, and servicing guidance.
  • Perform quality control reviews of servicing and liquidation files.
  • Identify compliance deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist management with SBA audits, examinations, and lender reviews.
  • Participate in policy and procedure updates.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen efficiency and compliance.
Reporting & Administration:
  • Prepare servicing, delinquency, liquidation, and recovery reports.
  • Assist with SBA 1502 reporting and portfolio data management.
  • Maintain accurate loan records and document imaging.
  • Support departmental goals, projects, and strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in SBA training and continuing education.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • Advanced understanding of SBA 7(a) lending programs.
  • Strong knowledge of SBA servicing and liquidation requirements.
  • Ability to interpret SBA SOPs and regulatory guidance.
  • Understanding of commercial credit analysis and problem loan management.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and loan servicing systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Banking, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial lending, SBA lending, loan servicing, credit administration, special assets, or related banking experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct SBA experience.
Preferred:
  • SBA servicing and liquidation experience.
  • Experience preparing SBA purchase and charge-off packages.
  • Experience working with SBA E-Tran systems.
  • Knowledge of SBA guaranty repair and denial risk.
  • Experience supporting SBA lender reviews or audits.
Compensation:

Spokane: $77,798.43 - $116,697

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position based in Spokane, WA. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
