Job summary

Carter Lumber in Lansing, MI is seeking a Sawyer to process cutting i-joists to specification and ensure a quality product is produced. Tasks are routine with minimal supervision and alignment with company mission.

Responsibilities include gathering materials, reading cut sheets, setting up machines for accurate cuts, maintaining inventory and equipment servicing, and meeting daily production goals, all while following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a manufacturing, mill, or lumber environment preferred.
• Ability to operate a forklift and chainsaw.
• Knowledge of safety procedures while handling saws and other tools.
• Manual dexterity for repetitious work.
• Ability to read and understand simple diagrams and blueprints.
• Must be able to work at a fast pace.
• Ability to work in inclement weather and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Gather materials and read cut sheets to determine amount, size and grade of material to cut.
• Set up machines to ensure accuracy of cuts and produce a quality product.
• Maintain inventory with accurate counts and manage equipment servicing schedules.
• Meet daily, weekly and team production goals.
• Load and unload semi flat beds on a daily basis.

Job description

A Carter Lumber Sawyer is responsible for processing cutting i-joists to specifications to ensure a quality product is produced.Projects are standard set up and generally routine based. Completes tasks as directed with minimal supervision.A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Sawing

• Responsible for gathering materials needed to perform job according to requirements. Reads cut sheets to determine the amount, size and grade of material that needs cut. Sets up machines properly to ensure accuracy of cuts are made. Ensures a quality product is produced. Maintains inventory by providing an accurate count of products. Manages an equipment servicing schedule. Meets daily, weekly and team related production goals. Responsible for loading and unloading semi flat beds on a daily basis.

Safety

• Adheres to safety requirements by operating equipment and handling material in a safe and appropriate manner. Acknowledges and reports any defects or safety issues to supervisor immediately.
