Job summary

Carter Lumber Company is seeking a Sawyer to process i-joists to specification, ensuring a quality product. The role involves reading cut sheets, setting up machines, and maintaining inventory, with emphasis on safe operation of saws and equipment.

Candidates should be able to work in a fast-paced environment, read diagrams and blueprints, and collaborate in a team. Position supports full-time hours with benefits and room for growth at the Lansing, MI facility.

Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing, mill, or lumber environment preferred.
• Ability to operate a forklift and chainsaw.
• Knowledge of safety procedures when handling saws and other tools.
• Manual dexterity for repetitious work.
• Ability to read and understand diagrams and blueprints.
• Must be able to work at a fast pace.

Responsibilities

• Sawing: read cut sheets, determine amount and grade of material, set up machines for accurate cuts, ensure quality product, manage inventory, service schedule, load/unload semi flat beds.
• Safety: follow safety requirements and report defects or issues to supervisor.

Job description

A Carter Lumber Sawyer is responsible for processing cutting i-joists to specifications to ensure a quality product is produced.Projects are standard set up and generally routine based. Completes tasks as directed with minimal supervision.A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a manufacturing, mill, or lumber environment is preferred
• Ability to operate a forklift and chainsaw
• Knowledge of safety procedures while handling saws and other tools
• Possess manual dexterity and the ability to do repetitious work
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instruction
• Ability to read and understand simple diagrams and blueprints
• Must be able to work at a fast pace
• Ability to work in inclement weather
• Ability to work in a team environment

Responsibilities

Sawing

• Responsible for gathering materials needed to perform job according to requirements. Reads cut sheets to determine the amount, size and grade of material that needs cut. Sets up machines properly to ensure accuracy of cuts are made. Ensures a quality product is produced. Maintains inventory by providing an accurate count of products. Manages an equipment servicing schedule. Meets daily, weekly and team related production goals. Responsible for loading and unloading semi flat beds on a daily basis.

Safety

• Adheres to safety requirements by operating equipment and handling material in a safe and appropriate manner. Acknowledges and reports any defects or safety issues to supervisor immediately.
