Job summary

Siskin Steel & Supply Company, Inc. is seeking a skilled Saw Operator to perform advanced production activities on multiple saws, including vertical and horizontal units. You will review blueprints and work orders, select materials, position pieces, and set processing specs to ensure quality output.

The role requires precise measurement, tool alignment, and the ability to multi-task while maintaining safety standards and documentation. On-site work in Louisville, KY with standard full-time hours.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Warehousing and material handling experience preferred.
• Experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting saws preferred.
• Experience with overhead crane operation preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions for work.
• Basic measurement skills and math computations required.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced production activities on all saws (vertical, horizontal, etc.).
• Review blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or specifications.
• Select correct material according to work order.
• Position work pieces for processing; operate a combination of different saws.
• Set processing specifications, tolerances, and sequences.
• Install and align cutting blades or fixtures using gauges and tools.
• Adjust cutting speed, depth and feed rates.
• Operate saws as required by workload.
• Measure pieces with calipers/micrometers to ensure spec conformance.
• Perform quality inspections on finished product and in-process as needed.
• Maintain and clean equipment per procedures.
• Diagnose problems and remove scrap; coordinate material handling.
• Complete work order documentation and restock material.
• Mark material/work pieces before/after processing as required.
• Adhere to safety and quality standards.

Job Summary

• Responsible for performing advanced production activities on all saws, including vertical, horizontal, etc.
• Reviews blue prints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Positions work pieces for processing; may operate a combination of different saws to process.
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, location of cuts forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects dimensions, tolerances and operational sequences.
• Positions work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines).
• Installs and aligns specified cutting blades or other fixtures using gauges, templates, feelers, shims or hand tools.
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates.
• Operates saws during processing as required based on work load or business needs.
• Measures and examines pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales and squares to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Perform(s) quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Cleans equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• Restocks material.
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.
• May mark material after processing and store material for additional processing and/or shipping.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

• Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications required.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
