Job summary

Sunshine Metals is looking for a Saw Operator to cut material to size using plate and bar saws in our service center. The role emphasizes accuracy, timeliness, and safe operation of cranes and forklifts.

Responsibilities include processing orders per specifications, staging material, reading measurements, data entry, and assisting in packing and inventory. Requires a high school diploma and 2+ years of related metals service center experience.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of related experience with saws or machinery.
  • Experience in metals service center industry preferred.
  • Ability to read and measure to exact specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate plate/bar saws to cut material per customer specs.
  • Process orders accurately and on time.
  • Pull, stage, and measure material for processing.
  • Retrieve material with a fork truck.
  • Enter precise specifications into data entry forms.
  • Safely operate cranes and forklifts with proper rigging.
  • Assist in packaging and weekly inventory counts.
  • Use precise measuring tools (tape measures, micrometers, calipers).
  • Maintain clean, organized work area and follow safety rules.
  • Adhere to company policies and quality standards.

The Saw Operator is responsible for utilizing the machines in the service center to cut material using one or more plate and bar saws.

Responsibilities and Duties

At a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Saw Operator. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require. Be an expert in the mechanical operation of one or more saws in the service center.

  • Process orders according to customer cut to size specifications.
  • Ensure orders are processed by specification and on time without exception.
  • Pull and stage material to be processed at saw.
  • Retrieve material from the plate racks using a fork truck.
  • Measure material to exact requirements.
  • Enter data for the exact specifications into the appropriate form for data entry into the computer.
  • Safely and properly operate cranes, fork trucks, and apply safe rigging.
  • Assist in the packaging and receiving of shipments and in the weekly inventory cycle counts.
  • Use precision when operating tools such as tape measures, micrometers, nibblers and calipers.
  • Keep the immediate work area clean and organized throughout the day.
  • Adhere to Sunshine Metals safety rules, regulations and quality standards.
  • Adhere to all Sunshine Metals handbook policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of related experience or training working with saw and/or machinery
  • One or more years in the metals service center industry
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency, including Work, Excel, and Outlook
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to measure using different tools
  • Ability to read and calculate numbers and data
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction
  • Operate with high integrity, maintaining positive relations with co-workers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Strong work ethic; initiative-taking
Preferred Qualifications
  • One or more years of experience in the metals service center industry
