The Saw Operator is responsible for utilizing the machines in the service center to cut material using one or more plates and bar saws.
Responsibilities and Duties
At a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Saw Operator. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require.
- Be an expert in the mechanical operation of one or more saws in the service center.
- Process orders according to customer cut‑to‑size specifications.
- Ensure orders are processed by specification and on time without exception.
- Pull and stage material to be processed at saw.
- Retrieve material from the plate racks using a fork truck.
- Measure material to exact requirements.
- Enter data for the exact specifications into the appropriate form for data entry into the computer.
- Safely and properly operate cranes, fork trucks, and apply safe rigging.
- Assist in packaging, receiving shipments, and weekly inventory cycle counts.
- Use precision when operating tools such as tape measures, micrometers, nibblers, and calipers.
- Keep the immediate work area clean and organized throughout the day.
- Adhere to Sunshine Metals’ safety rules, regulations and quality standards.
- Adhere to all Sunshine Metals’ handbook policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two or more years of related experience or training working with saw and/or machinery
- One or more years in the metals service center industry
- Basic Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
- Ability to measure using different tools
- Ability to read and calculate numbers and data
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction
- Operate with high integrity, maintaining positive relations with co‑workers, customers, and suppliers.
- Strong work ethic; initiative‑taking
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in the metals service center industry
