Job summary

King-Steel is seeking a Saw Operator to run and maintain production saws, cut steel bar to spec, and manage material handling, quality checks, and packaging for shipment.

The role emphasizes safety, precise measurement, and efficient packaging processes within a Mon-Fri schedule.

Qualifications

• Overhead cranes and forklifts experience or ability to certify.
• Basic computer/Data entry skills.
• Ability to read specs using measuring tools.
• Detail-oriented with safety mindset.
• Able to lift materials and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Handle material with overhead cranes; load/unload steel bundles.
• Operate saw, set parameters, and perform routine maintenance.
• Inspect first 3 pieces at start and after restarts for quality.
• Inspect 5 pieces per hour for length, diameter and finish; log results.
• Package finished parts and prepare containers with protective packaging.
• Keep work area clean and organized.

The Saw Operator runs and maintains production saws, cutting steel bar to spec. The role covers material handling, quality inspection, and packaging finished parts for shipment.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

Material handling

• Load and unload steel bundles with overhead cranes

Load material onto the saw loading table, by crane or by hand as needed

Move empty and full containers at the saw with a forklift

Swap completed bins for empty ones

Saw operation and setup

• Enter material into Plex to start production

Set cutting parameters on the saw's operator interface

Do routine saw maintenance with the hand tools provided

Make sure the saw is running properly, and report any problems to your supervisor

Quality control

• Inspect the first 3 parts at every job start, and after any restart for a quality issue

Inspect 5 pieces per hour for length, diameter, and finish

Log inspection results in the computer and chart them on the SPC chart

Check both raw and finished material for quality

Packaging and shipping prep

• Prepare containers with VCI packaging materials

Hand-load, package, seal, and process containers

Process completed tubs in Plex and tag bins

Housekeeping

• Keep the saw and the area around it clean and organized

Requirements

Qualifications

• Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts preferred, or the ability to get certified
• Basic computer skills, including data entry
• Able to use measuring tools and read specs
