Job summary

The Dance Instructor at Roselle Park District leads Saturday morning classes for children ages 1-4, creating a fun, engaging introduction to dance. Qualifications

• Must be 18 years old.
• Minimum of two to three years' experience with children.
• Preferred knowledge of various forms of dance and teaching techniques.
• Must be self-motivated and responsible.
• Ability to follow directions and communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to teach a variety of levels in a group setting.
• Ability to cut and prepare music.
• Ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions.
• Ability to control children within a classroom setting.
• Must be able to respond to and handle children's behaviors in a positive manner.
• CPR/First Aid certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops skill-appropriate lesson plans for the session.
• Provide participants with general information regarding class expectations.
• Create a fun and safe environment to learn various dance forms.
• Update class attendance sheets daily.
• Choreography, costuming, and production of dance recitals.
• Maintain a neat and orderly dance space and storage.
• Choose music and dance selections for classes.
• Demonstrate dance moves and choreography.
• Maintain positive relationships with staff and the public.
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
• Wear appropriate attire during work hours.
• Carry out directions from Recreation Supervisor.

SUMMARY

The Dance Instructor is responsible for c reating a fun and engaging introduction to dance for children ages 1-4 on Saturday mornings. This role is ideal for a patient, nurturing instructor who enjoys working with young children and fostering confidence through movement and music. Classes focus on building coordination, creativity, and a love of dance.

Classes will include styles such as Parent & Me, Creative Movement, Tiny Tap/Ballet, Mini Poms/Hip Hop, and Acro Tots.

Additional class opportunity is Acro/Poms on Mondays, 4-5p, for children ages 5-8; along with substitute opportunities.

$18-$20/hour DOQ

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:

• Develops skill appropriate lesson plans that follow a logical progression throughout the session.
• Provide participants with general information regarding the expectations and format of the classes.
• Provide a fun and safe environment to learn the essentials of various types of dance.
• Updates class attendance sheets every day classes meet.
• Responsible for the choreography, costuming and overall production of the dance recitals.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work environment including dance rooms and storage.
• Responsible for the choice of music and dance.
• Demonstrate the dance moves and choreography.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with subordinates, co-workers and the general public.
• Participates at required staff meetings and training sessions.
• Wears appropriate attire during working hours.
• Carry out the directions of the Recreation Supervisor.
• Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous in all cases.
• May perform other duties as necessary.
