Job summary

StormGeo is seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop and optimize scalable satellite data pipelines. You will build ETL workflows, ingest and catalogue large datasets, and ensure reliable 24/7 data delivery.

Collaborate with engineering, meteorology, product and operations teams while applying best practices in testing and documentation. The role emphasizes Python/SQL proficiency, experience with workflow orchestration (Prefect/Airflow) and familiarity with geospatial data formats, on a team

Qualifications

Degree in CS/Data Eng/Atmospheric Science/Geoscience or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years of professional programming or data engineering experience with large-scale satellite/environmental data.
Strong Python and SQL skills.
Experience designing and operating data pipelines and ETL processes.
Familiarity with Prefect, Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
Experience with UNIX/Linux systems and scripting.
Knowledge of satellite/geospatial data formats (NetCDF, HDF, GeoTIFF, COG, Shapefile, GeoParquet, GRIB).
Experience with GDAL, SNAP, Xarray, Rasterio or similar.
Experience with Git, unit testing, and software development best practices.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Structured, curious and solution-oriented problem-solving approach.

Responsibilities

Maintain, improve and modernize backend processes for satellite imagery and geospatial data.
Design, develop and optimize scalable satellite data pipelines.
Build and maintain reliable ETL workflows with tools like Prefect/Airflow.
Ingest, transform, validate and catalogue large volumes of satellite data.
Align data platforms with business goals and product requirements.
Develop scripts and services that integrate satellite data into StormGeo products.
Monitor pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and ensure 24/7 data delivery.
Collaborate with engineering, meteorology, product and operations teams.
Share knowledge and contribute to a supportive team environment.
Improve software quality through testing, documentation and code reviews.
