Title

SATCOM Requirements System Engineer

Overview

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high‑end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. This position has a profound impact on protecting national security.

We are seeking a SATCOM Requirements Systems Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA.

You will be part of a systems engineering team defining next‑generation space communication systems for the US Space Force (USSF). You will support Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) activities in a multidisciplinary environment, interfacing with team members, contractors, government civilians, and USSF personnel. You will lead and support several working groups, manage technical discussions, resolve risks, identify requirement gaps, develop briefings, write, and track action items, and author meeting minutes.

The MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) effort provides leading‑edge SE&I for the US Space Force’s Space Systems Center (SSC). We support the acquisition of state‑of‑the‑art satellite communications systems, providing global secure, survivable, and protected communications for the nation’s warfighters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities to develop and maintain technical baselines.
  • Develop, refine, and manage system and subsystem requirements, ensuring clarity, traceability, and verifiability.
  • Analyze system requirements and assist in verification activities, including review of TRDs, ICDs, and related documentation.
  • Work with government and contractor teams to identify and close requirement gaps using tools such as DOORS.
  • Support and occasionally lead technical working groups: prepare meeting materials, document minutes, track actions, and foster collaborative problem‑solving.
  • Assist in assessing impacts to the system technical baseline and identifying integration considerations across stakeholders.
  • Review program documentation, capture reviewer comments, and collaborate with contractors on adjudication.
  • Provide technical input and assist in developing briefings for USSF program leadership.
  • Participate in risk, issue, and dependency management activities; identify disconnects and propose solutions.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
  • Ability to obtain an Active Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • 3‑5 years of experience in systems engineering or requirements management.
  • Experience with requirements specification, analysis, and verification.
  • Familiarity with requirement traceability tools (e.g., DOORS).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline, i.e., engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science.
  • INCOSE ASEP/CSEP/ESEP certification.
  • MBSE certification (OCSMP).
  • Experience with Agile development tools or methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with MILSATCOM systems (AEHF, EPS, WGS, Tactical SATCOM, COMSATCOM).
  • Background working with DoD or military customers.
  • Familiarity with space and ground systems such as satellite communications, terminals, or DoD networks.
Compensation

$98,000-$122,000 in California.
