Job summary

SAP is seeking a SAP iXp Intern - Full-Stack AI Developer in Palo Alto (Hybrid) to contribute to Generative AI projects across the SAP ecosystem. You will design, build, and evaluate AI-powered applications with both front‑end and back‑end components, leveraging SAP platforms and large language models.

The role requires a Master’s degree or progress toward one, strong software skills (Python/JS/TS/Node/Java), and a passion for AI.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, or an equivalent field.
• Strong software development skills with Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or Java.
• Foundational knowledge of Generative AI, large language models, ML, NLP, or AI app development.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs, data‑driven apps, or cloud services.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, developing, and implementing Generative AI apps within SAP ecosystem.
• Develop Generative AI use cases such as intelligent agents, enterprise search, summarization, content generation, and workflow automation.
• Build retrieval-augmented generation solutions using embeddings and semantic search.
• Use SAP BTP, SAP AI Core, and GPT hub to integrate and manage foundation models.
• Design and optimize prompts, outputs, and model orchestration for enterprise scenarios.
• Implement back-end services using Python, Node.js, or Java and integrate LLMs with SAP and third‑party APIs.
• Develop responsive interfaces for AI-powered apps using SAP Fiori / SAPUI5 or modern front‑end frameworks.
• Evaluate AI solutions for accuracy, latency, cost; help implement guardrails to reduce hallucinations.
• Participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, and AI evaluation for high quality.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align on requirements and deliverables.

What You’ll Build

• Assist in designing, developing, and implementing Generative AI applications within the SAP ecosystem, including front-end, back-end, AI model, and enterprise data integration
• Develop Generative AI use cases such as intelligent agents, enterprise search, summarization, content generation, and workflow automation
• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions using embeddings, semantic search, and SAP HANA Cloud vector capabilities
• Use SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP AI Core, and the generative AI hub to integrate and manage foundation models
• Design and optimize prompts, structured outputs, and model orchestration workflows for enterprise business scenarios
• Implement back-end services using Python, Node.js, or Java and integrate large language models with SAP and third‑party APIs
• Develop responsive, user‑friendly interfaces for AI-powered applications using SAP Fiori, SAPUI5, or modern front‑end frameworks
• Evaluate Generative AI solutions for accuracy, relevance, reliability, latency, and cost, and help implement guardrails to reduce hallucinations and unsafe outputs
• Participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, and AI evaluation to ensure high‑quality performance and functionality
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product, design, data science, and development teams, to align on project requirements and deliverables

Qualifications

• Position is in Palo Alto, and employees need to work from the SAP office in Palo Alto.
• Ability to work full time for 40 hours per week is mandatory.
• Master’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, or an equivalent field; candidates must have graduated or be graduating soon.
• Strong software development skills with experience in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or Java
• Foundational knowledge of Generative AI, large language models, machine learning, natural language processing, or AI application development
• Experience developing RESTful APIs, data‑driven applications, or cloud‑based services
• Understanding of prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, or retrieval‑augmented generation
• Past work experience is an added advantage.

Preferred Skills

• Hands‑on experience developing applications and agents using large language model APIs or open‑source foundation models
• Experience with prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, AI agents, RAG frameworks, or model‑evaluation techniques
• Familiarity with SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP AI Core, the generative AI hub, or SAP HANA Cloud is a plus
• Understanding of embeddings, semantic search, vector databases, knowledge graph and the SAP HANA Cloud vector engine
• Experience with SAPUI5, SAP Fiori, or modern front‑end frameworks for building AI‑powered user experiences
• Knowledge of responsible AI practices, including data privacy, security, bias, hallucination mitigation, and AI guardrails
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is a plus
• Relevant academic, internship, research, open‑source, or personal project experience involving Generative AI or full‑stack development
