Gulfshoresal in Norman, OK is seeking a Refuse Collection Driver to operate various refuse trucks on assigned routes and ensure timely collection.
The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of related driving experience. Applicants should be able to perform routine maintenance and interact with residents and businesses kindly and professionally.
6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (Overtime as required)
High school diploma or equivalent. One year of experience driving a refuse collection truck or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver ’s License, Class B, and satisfactory driving record.
Refuse collection truck operation and maintenance. Safety rules and regulations. City geography.
Operation of refuse collection trucks. Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees, citizens, and businesses while performing duties.
Drives and operates refuse collection trucks including automated side loader (ASL) and r ear loader (REL) residential collection trucks, commercial front loaders (FEL), and roll offs (R/O)on assigned route. In-structs and trains new employees.Monitors work in progress to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion. Picks up trash on assigned routes; picks up and empties residential poly carts, commercial containers, and refuse compactors. Picks up yard waste such as limbs, leaves, and grass bags. Operates compactor mechanisms. Observes pick up area to determine whether area is free of refuse and safe to empty refuse containers. Drives refuse truck to transfer station or compost site to dump contents. Interfaces with citizens in person or over the telephone regarding minor complaints or questions. Refers citizens to main office regarding bills, inadequate services, or related problems. Works in a safe manner. Follows safety rules and safe work practices. Uses safety equipment as required. Performs minor maintenance on refuse trucks. Assists on other routes as needed. Completes standardized forms according to departmental procedures. Performs related duties as required.
Ability to cross train on all types of refuse collection trucks used in sanitation operations. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of the work day. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) and heavy (50-75 lb.) trash containers and debris frequently.Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.Excellent hand/eye coordination.Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extreme weather tempera-tures, noise, and noxious fumes and odors, and potentially hazardous waste and chemicals. Required to work holidays with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
