Position Summary:
The Sanitation Worker is responsible for ensuring all areas of the meat processing facility meet cleanliness and sanitation standards. This role involves cleaning and sanitizing equipment, machinery, work areas, and maintaining a safe, hygienic environment in compliance with USDA, FDA, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble meat processing equipment according to company procedures.
- Clean floors, walls, ceilings, drains, and production surfaces using appropriate chemicals and tools.
- Use high-pressure hoses, foamers, and chemical sprayers for sanitation duties.
- Accurately mix and use cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety data sheets (SDS).
- Maintain sanitation logs and complete necessary documentation for regulatory and internal audits.
- Identify and report maintenance or safety issues to supervisors promptly.
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP guidelines, and all plant safety protocols.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures when cleaning equipment.
- Work safely with or around sharp tools, moving machinery, and hot or cold environments.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to meet sanitation schedules and production requirements.
Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in sanitation or food manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to read and understand chemical labels, procedures, and safety instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Ability to work in cold, wet, and sometimes noisy conditions for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand/walk for the majority of the shift.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to raw and processed meat products.
- Work performed in a cold, damp environment (refrigerated areas).
- Frequent use of water and cleaning chemicals.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, face shields, aprons, and boots.
