Job summary

United Petfood in Mishawaka, IN is looking for a dedicated Sanitation Tech to maintain GMPs and sanitary conditions across production, packaging and storage areas.

You will perform CIP cleaning, support the Sanitation Supervisor, and ensure proper chemical handling, labeling and inventory tracking.

This role requires adherence to FDA, FSSC 22000, AIB, HACCP programs and 5S practices, with safety training and a team‑oriented mindset. 12‑hour shifts available; weekend coverage possible.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and communicate in English.
• Environment includes odor, noise, heat, cold, dust and chemicals.
• Mechanically inclined and able to learn handling of equipment.
• Must be able to stand long periods, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Understand chemical usage procedures and PPE, applying them safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform CIP and general cleaning and sanitation throughout the plant.
• Assist the Sanitation Supervisor to maintain food safety cleanliness per FDA, FSSC 22000, AIB and HACCP programs.
• Understand and use chemical pest control systems.
• Ensure chemical containers are properly marked and inventory tracked.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and perform other duties as assigned.
• Complete safety system documentation and verify compliance to program standards.
• Participate in mandatory safety trainings and adhere to safety policies.
• Report safety issues, near misses, and injuries.
• Complete quality and food safety documentation and report deviations.
• Maintain BRC system integrity and address any deficiencies.

Position Summary:

The Sanitation Tech maintains good housekeeping, GMP's and sanitary conditions in all areas in and around the plant including production, packaging, warehouse, food ingredient receiving and storage systems to meet the sites Quality and Food Manual.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform CIP and general cleaning and sanitation responsibilities as assigned throughout the plant.
• Under the direction of the Sanitation Supervisor, inspects, promotes and maintains adherence to food safety cleanliness in the handling or product, ingredients and finished goods using proper work procedures and compliance with Food Safety Standards as defined by the FDA, FSSC 22000, AIB and/or HACCP programs.
• Understand and use chemical or non-chemical pest control systems.
• Ensure chemical containers are properly marked and tagged with the ability to track chemical inventory.
• Follow and hold others accountable for following all company Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Workplace Safety:

• Completes safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
• Participates in mandatory safety trainings and adheres to all safety policies
• Required to report all safety issues, near misses, and injuries

Quality & Food Safety:

• Completes quality & food safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
• Participates in mandatory food safety and quality training program requirements
• Preserves the integrity of the BRC system through adherence to the policies and procedures outlined. Takes actions necessary to resolve food safety and quality system deficiencies
• Required to report food safety and quality system failures and take actions necessary to preserve the BRC system.

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to read, write, and communicate using the English language.
• Ability to work in an environment which includes frequent exposure to elements such as odor, noise, heat, cold, dust and chemicals.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform tasks on a ladder or at heights.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently and consecutively
• Ability to understand chemical usage procedures, personal protective equipment, and apply that knowledge safely to the sanitation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Knowledge of visual work control and 5S is a plus.
• Experience using forklifts, scissor lifts, and bobcats.
