Job summary

Hilmar Cheese Company is seeking a Sanitation Operator to ensure cleanliness and sanitation across multiple cheese production lines. The role requires completing CIP tasks, monitoring chemical tanks, and supporting ongoing plant sanitation programs in a fast-paced environment.

You will work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and overtime, with emphasis on food safety, safety protocols, and teamwork. Candidates should have basic MS Word/Excel/Outlook skills and be capable of lifting up to 60 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and document Plant CIP systems and daily CIP of multiple line circuits.
  • Maintain and monitor chemical tanks, drums and labeling.
  • Perform pre-operation preparations of cheese equipment shut down.
  • Collaborate with plant operators on CIP issues across the Plant.
  • Comply with Master Sanitation Schedule and related documentation.
  • Identify safety, food safety or quality issues and communicate to leadership.

A Typical Day

The Sanitation Operator is responsible for shut down, preparing, cleaning, and verifying cleanliness of multiple pieces of equipment per the SSOP.

Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor and document all Plant CIP systems to include daily CIP of multiple line circuit and SCM belts.
  • Responsible for monitoring all chemical tanks, day drums and jugs for proper labeling.
  • Maintaining and monitoring gaskets and valves throughout Plant.
  • Responsible for pre-operation preparations of cheese equipment shut down
  • Working with plant operators on CIP issues throughout Plant.
  • Satisfy specified cleaning and documentation as it is contained in the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Working with plant, QA and Ecolab personnel to ensure effective cleaning of all equipment.
  • Perform post CIP equipment inspections and plant inspections to ensure cleanliness
  • Ability to identify flows from HCV’s to packaging including completing Product Transitions
  • Ability to troubleshoot and communicate any Plant issues with related equipment and/or Process
  • To notify/communicate with management/maintenance any problems with equipment or processes that could affect Safety, Food Safety or quality.
  • Ability to learn and operate computer related processes and controls.
  • Active participation and ownership in your training and development program and associated activities, classes and events, which will be held before, during, after shifts and during scheduled days off.
  • Help coach and train teammates and participate in on the job, buddy training.
  • Place high priority on food safety and sanitation by understanding and executing HCC’s food safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This includes communicating any food safety incident, observation, or opportunity to your leadership team or teammates as well as participating in food safety and sanitation root cause analysis and improvement activities when required.
  • Prioritize safety above all other job duties by having a safety first approach at all times. This includes reporting any safety issues, observations, opportunities to your teams and follow up.

What Will Put You Ahead
  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Skilled in a level 1 or 2 role in cheese operations for at least 6 months, or 1 year of manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of dairy plant sanitation practices
  • SAP experience
  • State issued Pasteurizer License (if applicable)
  • Active/past member of department safety team
  • Completion of a cheese short course
