Job summary

A leading cruise line company is looking for a Sanitation Officer IPM responsible for overseeing pest management on ships. Job description

The Sanitation Officers IPM is primarily responsible for fleet wide shipboard Integrated Pest Management with a view to achieve and maintain an effective monitoring and control strategies for pests onboard the vessel that will minimize the health risk to all guests and crew.

The Sanitation Officers IPM interacts with all department heads on board and reports directly to the Fleet Public Health Officer, Public Health Manager, and Hotel Director while onboard.

Responsibilities:

• Compliance with all aspects of the Vessel Sanitation Operations Manual, Integrated Pest Management Manual, EPA rules and regulations regarding pesticide storage, usage and disposal including as well as WHO guidelines for Ship Sanitation Certificate updates.
• Review and discuss the necessary corrective action with department heads.
• Schedule and carry out yearly Integrated Pest Management audits.
• Organize Integrated Pest Management trainings of management and crew.
• Analyze audit findings in a fair, balanced, and constructive manner. Provide the ship with a written report indicating the achievements and shortcomings of the Integrated Pest Management onboard the ship at the time of the inspection.
• Accompany any Public Health inspectors during inspections.
• Analyze Public Health scores and reports and provide ships with necessary follow-up action.

Maximize knowledge through training to achieve set sanitation standards that will comply with:

• USPH – CDC Vessel Sanitation Program Manuals
• USDA – United States Department of Agriculture
• And any other local rules or regulations of ports of call

These include but are not limited to:

• Chemical and Equipment Inventory Management, compliance & tracking
• Insect Status Activity Tracking
• Performance Evaluations
• Review IPM Monthly, Voyage and Daily and picture clarification reports
• Produce and provide routine IPM reports to the shoreside management.
• Ensure all IPM and Ship Sanitation Certificates are up to date.

All Sanitation Officers IPM will also be responsible for all Wet and Dry‑dock IPM projects. The Sanitation Officer IPM shall ensure that.

• The Integrated Pest Management Manual remains updated annually and complies with the latest editions of the HESSMS (internal requirements), WHO, EPA, USPH, FIFRA and USDA rules and regulations.
• Prepares and revises the IPM logs and forms templates.
• Monitor and coordinate all Staff Attendant VSP movements and requests and ensure that (Revision 04 Updated: 07/08/2022) all vessels are always adequately manned by at least one Staff Steward VSP.
• Plan and coordinate the IPM college.
• Ensure that an annual Action Plan is shared for the upcoming year listing projects and focuses for the year and ensure progress report is sent to the Fleet Public Health Officer, Public Health manager and Director of Vessel Sanitation Program once every 6 months. This report must include riding/special team projects, dry‑dock schedules and any conventions or workshops being attended.
• Assist the Fleet Public Health Officer and Public Health Manager with the setup and implementation of the Integrated Pest Management Program for new builds that complies with Public Health and Environmental regulations.
• Assist and carry out all other tasks as directed by the Fleet Public Health Officer, Public Health Manager, Director of Vessel Sanitation Program or V.P. of Housekeeping Laundry & VSP.

Qualifications:

• Minimum high school or GED. Degree/Diploma in entomology is desirable.
• IPM Applicator certificate is required.
• At least two years of experience in the related field.
• Thorough knowledge of common practices, tools and terminology used to control pests, and the use and characteristics of pesticides.
• Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to apply pesticides in accordance with established regulations and to read, understand and follow chemical label instructions.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to estimate materials and time needed to complete task.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with different departments.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., use a ladder to access areas, and inspect crawl spaces.
