Job summary

Williamson County is seeking a Senior Sanitarian to perform environmental inspections and technical plan reviews to ensure OSSF compliance with State and County requirements. This role reports to the Division Director for Environmental Services and includes field inspections and coordination with landowners, designers, and contractors.

Responsibilities include reviewing permit applications, conducting various inspections, and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 30 semester hours or equivalent in a basic or applied science
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Suite
  • Master's degree preferred in related field

Job description

Reporting directly to the Division Director for Environmental Services, Senior Sanitarian, or Supervising Inspector, responsible for performing environmental inspections and technical plan review to ensure compliance of on-site sewage facilities (OSSF) with State and County requirements. Level I of III in Sanitarian.

  • Reviews and generates comments of on-site sewage facility permits applications for compliance
  • Conducts and documents pre-installation, installation, and post-installation OSSF inspections
  • Conducts and documents subdivision and Water Pollution Abatement Plan (WPAP) inspections
  • Performs and documents public health nuisance investigations
  • Meets with landowners, designers, and contractors to respond to questions and issues
  • Assists with public information requests and document management
  • Assists in the management of the maintenance records tracking system
  • Attends all meetings and trainings, as required
  • Performs special duties as assigned
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports directly to – Division Director for Environmental Services, Senior Sanitarian, or Supervising Inspector

  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 30 semester hours or its equivalent in a basic or applied science (refer to 16 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 119.23 for a listing of approved science courses) OR graduation within six (6) months of employment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Suite
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
  • Valid driver's license
Required within six (6) months of employment
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) OSSF Designated Representative license
Required within twelve (12) months of employment
  • TCEQ OSSF Site Evaluator license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree (refer to 16 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 119.23 for a listing of approved science courses)
  • Two (2) years of experience in consumer health, environmental health, environmental laboratory sciences, wastewater treatment, engineering, or sanitation
  • TCEQ Site Evaluator License
  • TCEQ Designated Representative License
  • Qualified Preparer of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans Certification
  • ARC-GIS software knowledge including the ability to perform advanced special analysis and data editing
  • Bilingual in Spanish
