Job summary

West Virginia is seeking a Regional Sanitarian for the Northern Region to support local health departments with inspections and plan reviews under the Food Establishment Rule and General Sanitation Rule.

The role also covers on-site Sewage Rule duties, complaint response, and coordination with governmental agencies and private sectors to improve public environmental health. A licensed RS or reciprocity eligibility is required, along with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four years of full-time or equivalent experience as a sanitarian.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Must be licensed as a registered sanitarian or be eligible to be licensed by reciprocity.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile availability may be required.

Job description

This position will be the Regional Sanitarian for the Northern Region assisting local health departments in assigned regions(s). This position conducts inspections and performs plan reviews for State Institutions related to the Food Establishment Rule and General Sanitation Rule and inspects Recreational Water Facility construction after a permit has been issued. Conducts work related to the On-site Sewage Rule as assigned. Responds to complaints related to public health violations and emergencies. The Regional Sanitarian position works closely with public stakeholders, governmental agencies, and private sector industries to address public environmental health needs and provide regulatory and technical support. Regional Sanitarian promotes public health awareness, attends professional development, and other training as required.

Training

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a sanitarian.

Substitution

A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, environmental science, chemistry, biology, physical science or agriculture may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Special Requirements

Must be licensed as a registered sanitarian by the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be licensed with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation, W. Va. Code R. §20-4‑4 et seq. Must possess a valid driver's license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
