Job summary

GOEBEL FIXTURE COMPANY is seeking a Sanitarian to perform advanced environmental health inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities in Morgantown, WV. You will review sewage disposal plans, issue permits, conduct site evaluations, and respond to environmental complaints.

Description

Job Purpose:

Under general supervision, Sanitarian performs advanced environmental health inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities. Responsibilities include reviewing engineered plans for sewage disposal systems, issuing permits, conducting site evaluations, and responding to environmental complaints. May assist in training Sanitarian in training staff and lead public health education efforts. This position may include limited supervisory duties such as mentoring or coordinating work. Employee has a good understanding of the tasks and associated processes but still requires periodic guidance to continue the learning process. Employee has learned the basics of the process but still requires periodic feedback in order to continue knowledge and professional growth.

  • Conduct inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with health codes.
  • Investigate complaints and public health nuisances.

  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

Physical Activity Level:

  • This position is considered having moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must be able to frequently walk, stand, bend, and kneel during inspections. The employee may be required to lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity is necessary for identifying sanitation issues and reading instruments or documents. Auditory acuity is required for interviews and public interaction. Manual dexterity is needed for operating testng equipment, writing reports, and using mobile devices. Travel by car is expected, and occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
  • The employee works in both office and field settings. Fieldwork may include exposure to varying weather conditions, unsanitary environments, and direct interaction with the public. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces, climb ladders, or access remote areas. The role involves travel throughout the county, including rural and urban locations. Protective equipement may be required depending on the inspection site. Reasonable accommodations may be enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health, public health, or a related field; minimum of two years of experience in environmental health.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
