Job summary

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is seeking a dedicated nurse to deliver expert, trauma-informed care for sexual assault patients. You will perform forensic/medical exams, provide patient and family teaching, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • ADN required. BSN preferred for hires after Sep 1, 2013; must complete BSN within 5 years if hired after that date.
  • RN licensure required upon hire for MO and KS; multistate license accepted.
  • Life Support Certifications required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification relevant to unit’s patient population preferred upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs forensic/medical exams in cases of alleged sexual abuse under supervision.
  • Meets educational needs of patient, family and staff using teaching/learning principles.
  • Delivers therapeutic, safe and efficient nursing care.
  • Attends education programs, unit meetings, peer review and maintains certifications.

Overview

Delivers expert and technically proficient, scientifically based nursing care to sexual assault patients. Performs medical/forensic exams, collects evidence, and provides trauma informed care for these patients under the supervision of the Child Adversity Resilience and ED/Urgent Care Physician. Is an active participant in professional activities, such as quality improvement projects/teams, research/publishing, in-service presentations, etc. Acts as subject matter expert within Children's Mercy and in collaboration with community partners.

  • Meets the educational needs of the patient, family and staff, utilizing principles of teaching/learning
  • Delivers therapeutic, safe and efficient care
  • Attends education programs, unit meetings, peer review and maintains mandatory certifications.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree ADN Required. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. and 1-2 years experience pediatric nursing or
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. and 1-2 years experience
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $35.90/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
