Job summary

Precision Castparts in Connecticut is seeking a Sandblast/Blaster to clean metal castings in accordance with safety and quality standards.

The role requires inspecting parts for surface defects, adjusting equipment, and maintaining documentation. You will log production data and assist with training as needed. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, wear PPE, and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • 6 months manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read and interpret paperwork and charts.
  • Ability to wear PPE and follow safety protocols.
  • Proactive in learning and following procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts equipment to obtain optimum running condition.
  • Inspects parts for surface imperfections and defects.
  • Loads blast material and operates sandblast/shots/blast methods.
  • Maintains equipment and ensures safety procedures are followed.
  • Logs information in the main computer system and tracks inventory.
  • Demonstrates ability to complete shop numbers to specifications.

Job description

Compensation: $18/h - $22+/h (dependent on experience) + Quarterly Incentive Bonus + Overtime Opportunities

Department: Mid-Fin

Purpose

Under general supervision, follows established safety and operating procedures to clean metal castings in accordance with quality standards. Ensures that documentation, tooling and parts are correctly matched to paperwork.

Essential Job Functions
  • Adjusts equipment to obtain optimum running condition.
  • Inspects own parts for surface distortion and imperfections such as flow lines, cracks, breaks, sinks, excess flash, non-fill and porous condition.
  • Loads blast material of proper size and type in all machines.
  • Maintains equipment in a safe manner.
  • Consistently notifies supervisor when workload is low.
  • Displays a willingness and interest to learn through on-the-job training.
  • Knows and understands all general plant and department safety rules and policies.
  • Has the physical ability to perform function.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize and communicate production problems to supervisor.
  • Maintains above average production efficiency.
  • Demonstrates proper procedures for signing off all department documents.
  • Has necessary eye-to-hand coordination to perform sandblast operations to meet surface finish requirements.
  • Passes a practical test which consists of the following steps:
    • Read and interpret paperwork instructions.
    • Know and understand sandblast cleaning equipment.
    • Demonstrate completion of at least 15 different shop numbers to specifications.
    • Load blast material of proper size in all types of machines.
  • Demonstrates ability to log on main computer system, extract information, log time, enter inventory amount and forward to next operation.
  • Must be able to clean all types of castings using sandblast, shot blast or chemical methods.
  • Adjust nozzles and pressure properly.
  • Turn dust collector on and off.
  • Meets all production and quality standards.
  • All other duties assigned.
Special Skills And Physical Requirements
  • Requires judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions within standard procedures.
  • Requires eye‑hand visual and manual dexterity to operate tools with continuous mental or visual attention requiring alertness.
  • Physical demands to lift up to 20 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to wear PPE.
Educations & Experience
  • Requires shop math plus decimals, fractions, formulas, specification charts, tables, and adjustable measuring instruments requiring interpretation, preparations and posting.
  • 6 months of manufacturing experience.
