Job summary

Sabine Surveyors is seeking a Sample Technician in the Lake Charles area to support bulk material sampling, temperature recording, and sample handling on marine surveys. The role requires adherence to client instructions, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

The technician will operate sampling equipment and document custody procedures. The position involves working outdoors in various weather, wearing PPE, and coordinating with supervisors to ensure timely and accurate sampling

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or 6 months sampling experience.
• Current TWIC credential required.
• Willingness to work in outdoor/industrial environments with PPE.
• Familiarity with sampling equipment and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Comply with terminal regulations for access.
• Ensure client instructions are understood before starting operations.
• Sample bulk material from moving conveyor per standards.
• Record temperatures of bulk materials.
• Split and crush samples as instructed.
• Bag, seal, label, and store sample bags.
• Complete custody documentation before handing samples off.
• Stay on-site until relieved.
• Attend monthly safety meetings.
• Clean on-site storage/office units as required.

Sabine Surveyors is currently seeking a Sample Technician in the Lake Charles area.

Sabine Surveyorsisa full-service marine surveying and consulting company founded in 1968. Our services include bulk and project cargo surveys, hull and machinery surveys, damage surveys, P&I surveys, on-hire, and off-hire bunker and/or vessel condition surveys, vessel appraisals, vessel audits, management audits, shipyard representation services, CRF 46 Subchapter M Compliance services and vendor audits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following; other duties may be assigned as required:

• Complying with terminal regulations and requirements necessary for access.
• Ensuring that client instructions are on hand and understood before starting operations or taking over a shift.
• Sampling bulk material from moving conveyor belt with appropriate equipment to ASTM or equivalent standards.
• Obtaining and recording temperatures of bulk materials.
• Splitting and crushing obtained samples as per the client's and Sampling Supervisor's instructions.
• Storing, bagging, sealing, labeling, and packaging sample bags of sampled material.
• Filling out necessary custody control documents prior to turning over samples to a third party.
• Remaining at place of work until properly relieved in person by oncoming relief.
• Participating in monthly safety meetings.
• Regularly cleaning on-site storage/office units after each job and as required.

Required Education & Experience:

• High School Diploma or six (6) months sampling experience.
• Current valid Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC).

Working Conditions:

• Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid, and rainy weather, combined with some regular work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
• Must wear hearing, eye, and head protection, and proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Some climbing (20' or higher), bending, stooping, and lifting (up to 50 pounds) are involved.
• Working with hot, dusty, and sometimes hazardous materials.
• Work on marine vessels or in terminal settings, walking over uneven surfaces.
• Traverse gangways and ladders at varying heights.
