Job Description
Duties:
- The Project Manager, Sample Procurement & Collaborations, oversees all operational aspects of human specimen acquisition from commercial vendors and/or academic collaborations. Working closely with Scientists in the department, the Project Manager works to refine the project scope, assess feasibility with vendors, and partners with internal functions to execute contracts for procurement and outsourced testing, and ensure samples and data arrive in a timely fashion and meet all quality expectations.
- Provide project management support for Scientists for non‑clinical trial projects involving human specimens (e.g., technology evaluations, companion diagnostics development, assay validation, disease biology).
- Partner with internal stakeholders such as Legal, Contracts, and Procurement for timely execution of contracts.
- Actively manage multiple projects from initial request through completion by overseeing contracts for specimen receipt, outsourced testing, and final sample and data quality.
- Manage relationships with external business partners – commercial laboratories/vendors as well as academic collaborators.
- Maintain working knowledge of current GCP, biobanking, and sample management policies and best practices.
Skills:
- Strong scientific background: life sciences degree, hands‑on experience working with human specimens (blood, tissue) and/or assay development.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing timelines.
- Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly with scientific audiences and adapts messages to audiences at varying levels of the organization.
- Able to drive for results with limited instruction and incomplete information.
- Experience in alliance management, vendor management, and/or business development.
- Experience with operational, regulatory and ethical aspects of bio‑specimen collection and banking in a drug‑development setting.
- Effective negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
Education:
- BS/BA (Engineering/Science preferred). Minimum 3 years Project Management experience.
- Experience with implementation of process‑improvement initiatives.
