Job summary

Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Salvage Associate at the Lomar Distribution Center.

The role focuses on sorting, staging, and loading pallets, bread trays, and totes using pallet jacks and forklifts to support efficient material transport, with a focus on waste reduction through compacting and baling cardboard and plastic for recycling. You will perform utility tasks, operate the tote washing machine, and maintain pallets and totes, while adhering to safety rules; the position requires a high school

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate pallet jacks and forklifts with safety.
• Ability to follow verbal or written instructions.
• Strong attention to safety and housekeeping.

Responsibilities

• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
• Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.
• Runs compactor and baler for all cardboard & plastic.
• Pallet, bread tray, tote maintenance (sort/load/unload and count/verification of pallet load counts).
• Removes trash from warehouse floor and fills in for office housekeeping as needed.
• Place empty totes in the tote washing machines.
• Remove cleaned totes from tote washer and stack on pallets.
• Operates powered industrial equipment, demonstrating caution and complies with safety rules and regulations in all aspects of the daily job requirements.
• Performs general utility and grounds maintenance as needed.
• Attends departmental and company meetings.
• Assists with setup/teardown of large group meetings.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

General Function:

Education/Experience Required to Perform Job:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Must have the ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables with limited standardization; interpret instructions.
• Have the ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies verbally or in writing.

Physical Requirements:

• Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Must be able to physically perform heavy work: exerting up 50 pounds of force frequently up to 20 pounds constantly, and up to 10 pounds of force continually to move objects.
• Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Equipment used to Perform Job:

• Scrubber, mop, sweeper, hand tools, power tools, vacuum, and industrial power truck and equipment.

Working Conditions:

• The duties for this position are normally conducted in a warehouse environment. There is continuous exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents, and electrical shock.
