Job summary

The Shelly Company in Ohio is seeking a Sales Representative to develop and maintain relationships with customers in Ready-Mix Concrete and Building Materials, and to drive regional sales and profitability. You will analyze markets, develop sales strategies, bid opportunities, coordinate with safety, production, and customer service, and travel as needed to cover territory.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of experience, strong computer skills, and the ability to read

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy and tactics to meet sales goals and profitability in key markets.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis including demand forecasting, competitor capabilities, customer profiles, and alternatives.
  • Bid on appropriate projects within the assigned marketing area; participate in bid strategy development.
  • Establish short- and long-term goals for key clients; develop action plans to achieve goals.
  • Meet specific sales volumes and profit margin targets.
  • Coordinate with Safety, Quality Control, Production, Operations, and Customer Service for top-notch service.
  • Communicate with team to manage cross-boundary accounts and leverage portfolio.
  • Participate in industry associations to develop networking and relationships.
  • Manage relationships with key accounts across the region.
  • Identify opportunities and market products within core markets.
  • Create and maintain strategic opportunity and account plans.
  • Maintain strong customer and supplier relationships; monitor market intelligence.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-based approach.

Position Overview

The Sales Representative reports to the Sales Manager and is responsible for developing and maintaining favorable relationships with current and potential customers, achieving sales goals of our Ready-Mix Concrete and Building Materials business, developing short- and long-term sales strategies and sales plans to increase the region’s profit margins.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

  • Assist in developing strategy and tactics that ensure the attainment of company sales goals and profitability in key markets through assigned geography.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to include on demand forecasting, competitor capabilities, customer profiles and the next best alternatives.
  • Identify and bid all appropriate projects within assigned marketing area. Participate in the development of bid strategy for each job.
  • Establish short- and long-term goals and strategies in regard to key clients and prospects. Develop specific action plans to achieve goals.
  • Will be responsible for meeting specific sales volumes and profit margin goals.
  • Partner with other departments (Safety, Quality Control, Production, Operations, Customer Service) to ensure every account receives the highest level of customer service.
  • Communicate with the team to manage and coordinate sales to customers who overlap geographic boundaries and markets, as well as to leverage the portfolio across company boundaries.
  • Actively participate in industry-related associations as required in order to develop and maintain key networking and business relationships.
  • Manage relationships with key accounts throughout the region.
  • Prospect opportunities and companies and market products within core markets
  • Create and maintain Strategic Opportunity and Account plans for strategic opportunities or accounts.
  • Maintain strong customer and supplier relationships.
  • Maintain a high level of market intelligence throughout the region.
  • Must foster a collaborative, team-based approach.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (5 years). Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. A bility to read and interpret civil design drawings, and engineering production drawings is ideal.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers and employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
