Job summary

Volm Companies is seeking a Sales Engineer in Fresno, CA to drive customer opportunities for key technologies such as infeed/wash systems and end-of-line palletizing equipment. You will work under the Sales Director for Equipment to help grow revenue and profitability across a defined territory.

You will manage design projects with customers and vendors, prepare flow diagrams, and deliver compelling sales presentations.

Salary Range: $79,643.10 To $95,576.00 Annually

Job Title: Sales Engineer

Reports to: Sales Director for Equipment

Pay: $79,643.10-$95,576.00 base salary, plus commission of 1.5%-2.5% of gross profit, and the potential of an annual bonus up to $10,000

Job Summary

As a member of the sales team, you will serve as an initial contact by the sales team for development of customer opportunities, in a specific territory, for key technologies such as infeed/wash systems, end of line palletizing equipment and other products. The sales engineer will work under the Director of Sales for Equipment and Engineered Solutions, to help guide growth and profitability to meet or exceed budget goals. The Sales Engineer will need to work in a collaborative manner acting as communication bridge between our customers, key vendors, internal sales colleagues, and Volm’s VEST, ensuring the combined strengths of the organizations result in a winning combination to secure new business.

• Follow prescribed workflow for lead follow-up and data management.
• Document needs of the clients specific to the commodities and technologies applicable.
• Prepare flow diagrams of process.
• Combine design skills and equipment aptitude to create packing house concepts for vendors and internal resources to assist with solutions.
• Manage larger design projects with customers/vendors/VEST/Volm management (when applicable) to see opportunities to close of sale.
• Assist in gathering and creation of equipment videos/pictures and other material for marketing and promotional purposes.
• Attending tradeshows, equipment trials, vendor site visits as necessary.
• Customer cold calling, research, and prospect list building to develop and achieve new business sales targets.
• Create and deliver sales presentations to internal groups, customers and suppliers as required.
• Provide forecasting information to management regularly.
• Maintain a professional appearance in attire and personal care.

Education and Experience

• 3+ years of experience in fresh produce packaging or food processing preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing and writing.
• Sufficient visual acuity to read documents.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, especially for office-based roles that involve desk work or operating computer systems.
• Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes, depending on the nature of the job.
• Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes, as required by the job.

Travel Requirements

This position requires routine overnight travel and routine travel within the workday.

Driver Qualification

The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company is required.

Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle.

• Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
• Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.
• When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.
