Job summary

The Coast Guard Exchange in Detroit is seeking a part-time Sales Clerk to welcome customers, maintain product knowledge, and assist with merchandise selection.

You will handle payments, stock shelves, and help meet daily sales goals while upholding Loss Prevention standards. This role runs Monday–Friday, 7:15 am–3:45 pm, with a $1,000 hiring bonus and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers, maintain product knowledge and help with the selection of merchandise.
  • React to all concerns of customers quickly with a sense of importance.
  • Sell merchandise and provide outstanding customer service, including explanations of product features.
  • Take periodic stock counts and participate in inventories.
  • Replenish stock and maintain merchandise in a neat and presentable condition.
  • Inform supervisor of customer requests.
  • Process payments (cash, checks, credit/debit cards) and give accurate change.
  • Maintain sales records and balance till at end of shift.
  • May adjust prices or promotions as directed.
  • Follow Loss Prevention policies and safety standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Duties
  • Welcome customers, maintain product knowledge and help with the selection of merchandise.
  • React to all concerns of customers quickly with a sense of importance.
  • Sell merchandise, and provide outstanding customer service, which may require demonstration and/or explanation of technical features of items sold.
  • Take periodic stock counts and may participate in taking inventories.
  • Replenish stock and maintain merchandise in a neat and presentable condition.
  • Advise supervisor/department head of customer requests.
  • Receive cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards and gift cards in payment for merchandise and give change accurately in the operation of cash register.
  • Maintain record of sales, at the end of shift balances till, turns in sales records, money, stamps, customer checks or charge slip and accounts for all monies and items sold.
  • May perform price changes for various departments, either markdowns or mark ups, and the setting of company promotions.
  • Follow all policies regarding Loss Prevention and be aware and proactive regarding shrink and the Alert Line.
  • Follow all established safety standards and emergency preparedness requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be available Monday - Friday, 7:15 am to 3:45 pm.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Potential to stock merchandise, assist patrons and operate a cash register which is shown by the ability to read, comprehend and explain product literature; as well as count, subtract, multiply, and divide for stocking and inventory purposes as evidenced by high school coursework, a GED or high school diploma.
  • Ability to routinely lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift 25 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
