Position

Sales Clerk – Non‑Exempt, Part‑time – Grade 4 ($12.16–19.84). Reports to Store Manager. Location: Niobrara Market. Division: OSNI, Department: OSNI Ponca.

Summary

The Sales Clerk assists customers, stocks shelves, maintains cleanliness, and ensures a positive shopping experience. Candidates should have excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Handle cash, credit or check transactions with customers
• Scan goods and collect payments
• Ensure pricing is correct
• Issue change, receipts, refunds, or tickets
• Redeem coupons and save them
• Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change. Do paperwork.
• Make sales referrals, cross‑sell products and introduce new ones
• Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information
• Bag items carefully
• Greet customers when entering or leaving the establishment
• Offer to carry out items
• Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas
• Sweep and mop the floor at night
• Clean cooler doors and any spills
• Wipe off carts
• Take out trash
• Clean bathrooms
• Mark down any products tossed due to spoilage
• Remove old sales tags and put up new ones
• Make sure current ads are out and being distributed
• Help with truck
• Break down boxes and take out to garbage
• Stock shelves (rotate it)
• Face the product (pull it forward)
• Keep reports on transactions
• Process returns and check to see if items are damaged
• Answer customers' questions and get a manager if the answer does not solve the issue
• Bag, box or wrap packages
• Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction

Relationships and Authority

This position has no supervisory authority.

Qualifications

• Previous retail or grocery experience is a plus but not required
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
• Comfortable standing for long periods and working on your feet
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
• Basic math skills for handling cash and transactions
• Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
