Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a retail associate to be the face of our store floor, helping customers and processing transactions.

You'll provide friendly service, answer questions, manage merchandise on the floor, and maintain a clean, secure register area while supporting team needs and store standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and GGW associates.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all customers.
• Ability to settle customer complaints.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to stand for up to 7 hours per shift.
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
• Basic working knowledge of computers and the internet.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register.
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include making change and operating the cash register and card machines.
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customers' questions courteously and promptly.
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and assists customers with purchase selections.
• Maintains clean professional appearance.
• Maintains orderly and clean register area.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of six months of previous work experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working in a retail environment
• Excellent customer service related skills
• Working knowledge of a cash register
• Multilingual with complete fluency in English
