Job summary

NAVY EXCHANGE SERVICE COMMAND (NEXCOM) is seeking a sales associate to be the face of the brand, helping customers and explaining product value in an educational, professional manner. You will learn offerings, deliver friendly service, and contribute to a positive shopping experience.

Responsibilities include assisting customers, maintaining store appearance, cross-selling and upselling, processing payments with a POS system, and participating in inventories.

Qualifications

  • Basic product knowledge of merchandise.
  • Retail experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents and communicate with customers and management.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to multitask, work in a team, and follow directions.
  • Physical requirements: stand for extended periods, lift 25–50 lbs, indoor/outdoor work as needed.

  • Provide premier customer service, engage with customers, direct them to merchandise and inform about events and promotions.
  • Maintain store appearance and organization.
  • Cross-sell products, upsell, and communicate product features and promotions; process transactions via POS and handle cash accurately.
  • Assist in inventory and ticketing of merchandise; participate in periodic inventories.
  • Adhere to work schedule and perform other duties as assigned.

You will be directly responsible for assisting customers and helping them recognize the need for our products and services. You must be capable of learning about what we sell and articulating our purpose in an educational, insightful and professional manner. Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Proactively engage and connect with customers; ask questions, listen to their needs, direct them to merchandise and inform about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and the STAR card. Provide premier customer service, cooperate in building positive inclusive respectful relationships, and take accountability for your own actions and outcomes.
  • Organization: Maintain store appearance.
  • Sales: Cross‑sell products, know the store layout; suggest latest trends and promotions based on individual needs; upsell products; learn product features and stay updated on trends, leveraging company tools and technology to provide confident product knowledge. Use a POS system to process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit/debit cards, and handle cash accurately. Complete paperwork, reports, and reconciliation.
  • Inventory: Check merchandise in, accurately ticket it, and participate in periodic inventories.
  • Dependability: Adhere to assigned work schedule; follow through on work assignments; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Effective communication with customers, peers, and management, and telephone etiquette.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Reasoning ability, multitasking, flexibility, teamwork, initiative, and ability to work independently of direct supervision.
  • Physical demands: constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing, standing for at least two consecutive hours; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders; vision: close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment; lifting 25–50 lbs. Work is typically indoors but may be outdoors depending on location.
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, energetic. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • No experience required.
Work Hours

Available to work a variety of hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
