THE ROLE
The Sales Associate - Cannabis Budtender is the heart of the Bud's guest experience. This is a guest-facing, non-supervisory position responsible for helping guests navigate our products, completing accurate & compliant cannabis transactions, & creating the welcoming, knowledgeable & hospitality-driven experience that keeps people coming back.
You'll spend the majority of your shift directly interacting with guests - learning what they're looking for, answering product questions, completing transactions & helping maintain an organized, efficient & inviting retail environment.
Budtenders are also one of our most important lines of defense when it comes to compliance. You'll be responsible for verifying information, maintaining transaction accuracy, protecting cannabis products & cash, & following all Company procedures & applicable cannabis regulations.
This role requires curiosity. Great Budtenders continually build their cannabis knowledge, learn our products, understand the menu, & adapt as our technology, systems & industry evolve.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent - required
- One or more years of work experience - required
- Retail, hospitality or customer-facing experience - preferred
- Cannabis industry experience - preferred
- Cash-handling experience - preferred
- Experience using POS or other retail technology - preferred
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills - required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
GUEST EXPERIENCE & SALES
- Welcome every guest with a friendly, professional & hospitality-driven approach
- Guide guests through the retail experience & help them navigate available cannabis products
- Listen to guest needs & preferences & provide appropriate product information
- Maintain strong working knowledge of the products, brands & promotions available on the menu
- Educate guests on product types, consumption methods, storage requirements & other Company-approved product information
- Complete guest transactions accurately & efficiently through the point-of-sale system
- Help maintain efficient guest flow during both high- & low-volume periods
- Create positive interactions that build guest trust, loyalty & repeat business
- Represent Bud's values & brand professionally during every guest interaction
CANNABIS KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION
- Maintain current knowledge of cannabis products available on the menu
- Build understanding of product categories, cannabinoids, consumption methods, storage requirements & other relevant product information
- Participate in Company-required product education & training
- Stay informed about new products, brands & Company promotions
- Communicate cannabis information responsibly & within the scope of Company training
- Never provide medical advice or make claims outside of approved product information
TRANSACTIONS & CASH HANDLING
- Dispense cannabis & cannabis products in strict accordance with Company procedures & applicable regulations
- Accurately process transactions using the Company's POS system
- Maintain responsibility for an assigned cash till when applicable
- Accurately make change & follow all cash-handling procedures
- Verify cash amounts & transaction records as required
- Immediately report cash or transaction discrepancies to Retail Management
- Maintain accuracy throughout the entire dispensing & sales process
COMPLIANCE & SAFETY
- Follow all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures & applicable cannabis regulations
- Maintain required knowledge of METRC & Company POS processes
- Follow all age-verification & identification requirements
- Help prevent sales to minors, theft & diversion
- Maintain awareness of cannabis products & assigned inventory at all times
- Immediately report compliance, security or safety concerns to Retail Management
- Maintain guest privacy & confidentiality
- Follow all security & emergency procedures
- Maintain safety awareness throughout each shift
STORE OPERATIONS
- Maintain a clean, organized & guest-ready sales floor
- Support opening & closing procedures as assigned
- Assist with front desk, guest check-in or other guest-facing responsibilities as assigned
- Monitor product levels on the sales floor & communicate replenishment needs
- Assist with product labeling & stickering, restocking or other inventory-related tasks as directed
- Maintain accuracy of assigned inventory
- Complete assigned side work & operational tasks
- Help prepare the store & sales floor for the next shift
- Adapt to procedural & operational changes as communicated by Retail Management
- Perform additional non-supervisory duties as assigned
FULFILLMENT DUTIES
- Maintain the pick-up order & kiosk order flow, ensuring accurate & timely fulfillment for guests
- Verify pick-up & kiosk orders for accuracy before releasing them to guests
- Communicate fulfillment delays, issues or discrepancies to Retail Management
TEAMWORK & COMMUNICATION
- Work collaboratively with Budtenders, Lead Sales Associates, Inventory & Retail Management
- Follow direction provided by Retail Management & Shift Supervisors
- Communicate guest-flow, inventory, cash, technology or operational concerns promptly
- Support teammates during high-volume periods
- Contribute to a positive, respectful & inclusive work environment
- Ask questions when expectations or procedures are unclear
- Take accountability for mistakes & work collaboratively to resolve them
TECHNOLOGY & AI
- Use Company-approved technology & systems to complete sales, inventory, training & other assigned responsibilities accurately
- Use approved AI tools, when appropriate, to support learning, organization & individual productivity
- Leverage approved technology to strengthen product knowledge & better understand Company-provided information
- Demonstrate curiosity & adaptability as new technology, systems & AI tools are introduced
- Review AI-generated information for accuracy before relying on or using it
- Never enter confidential employee, guest, Company or regulated information into an AI tool unless specifically authorized by Company policy
- Understand that AI & technology may support the role but do not replace Company training, approved product information, established procedures or management direction

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must pass all required background checks
- Must remain eligible for state-required cannabis industry badging
- Must maintain required licenses, certifications & trainings
- Must remain compliant with all Company policies & applicable cannabis regulations
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including mornings, evenings, nights, weekends & holidays
- Must be able to work successfully in a fast-paced retail environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to stand & move throughout the store for extended periods, including shifts of up to 10 hours
- Able to lift & move up to 50 lbs
- Able to bend, reach, crouch & move safely throughout the facility
- Able to perform repetitive POS, cash-handling & inventory-related tasks
- Able to work outside in varying weather conditions when required
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment
This position operates primarily on the retail sales floor in a fast-paced, high-volume cannabis environment with frequent direct interaction with guests, cannabis products, cash, technology systems & other team members.
The Budtender is a guest-facing, non-supervisory position & is eligible to receive tips in accordance with applicable law & Company policy.
