SALES ASSOCIATE – Part-Time

The Sales Associate is responsible for providing exemplary selling and customer service that is designed to improve the productivity and profitability of the store. The Sales Associate provides the customer with product recommendations and solutions by working proactively with them and serves as a role model of best practice retail execution. The Sales Associate’s overall focus is on sales, service, and relationship‑building at all times.

In addition to selling, the Sales Associate performs inventory management procedures, conducts product sets, stocks product, maintains housekeeping, and assists with stockroom duties as identified or assigned. The Sales Associate works closely with the corporate store team and reports directly to the Store Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Creating and maintaining a warm, inviting, easy‑to‑navigate shopping environment.
• Building and sharing expertise on products, promotions, services, and brand rewards programs, tailored to the diverse needs of shoppers.
• Helping customers find the perfect card and gift solutions for their purposes.
• Showcasing stories and communities of caring to reinforce the cycle of kindness.
• Handling store operations efficiently—product replenishment, merchandising, ringing sales, processing shipments, managing inventory, fulfilling Hallmark.com orders, curbside deliveries, and more.
• Delivering an exceptional consumer shopping experience that leaves guests inspired, enabled, affirmed, and eager to return.
• Working as a team to meet store sales goals by ensuring each customer leaves with everything they need—and sometimes with more.
• Upholding all company policies and practices.
• Performing housekeeping of the store, including backroom, front of store, bathroom, etc.
• Completing other duties or special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• If under 18, must meet work permit requirements where applicable.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the business, including events, holidays, evenings, and weekends.
• Proof of eligibility to work legally in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One or more years of previous experience in specialty retail, sales, or customer service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong customer‑focused engagement and consultative selling skills.
• Effective communication with customers and employees; a strong sense of urgency, flexibility, and willingness to adapt to change.
• Ability to receive feedback and act when appropriate; proficiency and comfort using a computer and other technology.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Continuous standing/walking, pushing/pulling, and lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds; fine finger movement for keyboard operation, writing, etc.; and grasping/gripping with hands and/or fingers.
• Frequent bending at the waist, climbing/work at heights, kneeling, squatting, lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds, and overhead reaching with arms raised above shoulder height.
• Occasional balancing on uneven surfaces, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Rarely/infrequently driving or traveling, lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds, or remaining seated.
• Continuous communication with customers, co‑workers, and vendors in person or over the phone.
• Exposure to dust, cleaning agents, truck exhaust, inadequate lighting, noise, smells from product scents (candles, potpourri, lotions), and work outside or at heights in the stockroom or on the product floor.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

This is a regular, part‑time, hourly position deemed non‑exempt by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Hours typically range from 6‑20 per week, not to exceed an average of 28 hours per week.

PAY

$12.00 per hour.
