We are a training practice with strong ties to the University of Glasgow medical school and actively participate in OOH, appraisal, RCGP and LMC boards. A Golden Hello may be available for the right candidate.

Job description

Less than a 30-minute scenic drive west from Glasgow city, with views of Dumbarton Rock and Ben Lomond, is Newark Medical Practice in Port Glasgow, who are looking to expand their team of enthusiastic and dedicated GPs. We welcome those who are looking for that all important work-life balance, support portfolio working and an interest in medical education.

We currently have 3 partners and are looking for 4-6 (preferably 6) sessions. Ideally we are looking for a salaried GP but understand that some may want a have a trial period as a locum first, which we would accommodate. We would hope the successful candidate would in the future grow into a new partner. We are in a purpose built health centre so no buy-in is required and the post, if salaried, would be eligible for a Golden Hello payment.

We have been a training practice since 2022 and we have strong ties to the University of Glasgow medical school, and hope our successful candidate(s) would be keen to be involved in this. We would support both clinical and non-clinical specialist interest development, as our partners are also involved in OOH, appraisal, the local RCGP and LMC boards. We are part of the Inverclyde East Cluster team and are currently involved in a number of exciting quality improvement projects.

The practice list size is approximately 4,000 patients.

As well as our 3 GP Partners, we have a prescribing Nurse Practitioner, supported by on-site CTAC for CDM work-up, an efficient, organised and loyal admin team including a Practice and Office Managers. We are supported by a great District Nursing Team, as well as Health Visitors, Community Psychiatric Nurses, a Community Links Worker and on-site treatment room facilities.

In addition to the above we have access to housecall support in the form of a team of experienced ANP’s and a practice pharmacist and technicians who assists with acute prescribing, IDLs, outpatient requests, Near Patient Testing and much more.

Port Glasgow is well served by the M8 and Erskine Bridge, making it an easy commute from across the west of Scotland and is also within a 5-minute walk of the town’s train station. The local shops, cafes, swimming pool and retail park are all within a short walk and you can cross the road to walk along the riverside and enjoy the views at lunchtime over the Clyde Estuary and Newark Castle.
