Job summary

AdventHealth Lenexa is seeking a registered nurse for a PRN Day shift. Provides education to patients and families from admission to discharge, administers medications, and collaborates with physicians across units. 40 hours weekly with rotating call, potential for permanent placement.

Qualifications

• Active RN license and good standing.
• Associate degree in nursing completed.
• 2 years of acute hospital nursing experience.
• Basic computer skills and ability to navigate Windows.
• Fluent in English (reading, speaking, writing).

Responsibilities

• Provide education to patients and families from admission to discharge.
• Document education and initiate referrals as needed.
• Deliver competent, compassionate nursing care and maintain a safe environment.
• Administer medications accurately and respond to unit codes.
• Provide care for patients requiring oxygen support.
• Assist physicians with bedside procedures.
• Manage patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Verify and sign physician orders and obtain lab specimens.
• Evaluate care plans to ensure quality delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Details:

• Provides necessary education to patients and families from admission to discharge, covering medical and nursing care plans, medications, tests, procedures, disease processes, and discharge instructions.
• Documents education provided, including patient responses and outcomes. Initiates referrals to healthcare providers as needed.
• Delivers competent, compassionate care to patients in pain according to policy and maintains a safe care environment.
• Administers medications accurately as ordered. Responds to unit and hospital code situations.
• Provides safe, competent nursing care for patients requiring oxygen support.
• Assists physicians with bedside procedures.
• Manages patient admissions, transfers, and discharges professionally.
• Verifies and signs off physician orders and obtains lab specimens as ordered.
• Evaluates the nursing care plan to ensure safe, competent care delivery.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must be able to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes. [Required]
• Basic computer skills – must be able to navigate Microsoft windows-based programs. [Required]
• Must be fluent in English (read, verbal and written skills) [Required]
