Salary Range: $54,863.22- $73,242.40

General Description and Classification Standards

Plans, organizes, and implements training programs for employees in assigned department to enhance employee education/skill level or may facilitate and implement safety-related training, inspections and programs that enhance the safety and health of employees.

Provide the highest possible level of customer service by providing leadership to all COA CDL clients by coordinating all aspects of the CDL program including CDL classroom, road training, and testing preparation. This position is responsible for training, documenting, and reporting on all CDL testing results and COA customers served.

This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance. Applicant should be self-motivated, who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only professional in this specialty in a work group.

Supervision Received

Work methods and assignment results are typically reviewed by management prior to final action. This position does not supervise any other City of Atlanta personnel.

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
  • - Associate’s degree
  • - Must be 21 years or older
  • - Valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License w/ all endorsements and/or a CDL Instructor’s certification.
  • - 3-4 years of experience as a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructor and/or Commercial Driver’s License Examiner/Tester experience.
  • - Must have held a class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for at least 4 years
  • - Must have 3-5 years of mechanical and/or heavy equipment background
  • - Be able to pass a drug screening, DOT physical vision test, basic health screening, and criminal background check with a clean motor vehicle driving record.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • - Bachelor’s Degree
  • - Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in occupational health and safety with some of that related to safety and training
  • - 3-5 years of mechanical and/or heavy equipment background.
Licensures and Certifications
  • - Qualified candidates are expected to have a professional Commercial Driver’s License Instructor’s certification and a valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements.
Required
  • - Must possess 4-5 years valid class ‘A’ Georgia Commercial Driver’s License w/ endorsements and/or a CDL Instructor’s certification.
