Job summary

New Balance Athletics, Inc. is seeking a Safety & Training Specialist for our Salt Lake City Distribution Center. You will develop and implement safety programs, deliver training, and partner with supervisors to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

The role requires experience in safety training, knowledge of regulations, and strong communication skills to drive incident prevention and process safety across the operation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years related distribution leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in safety program development and training coordination.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently; strong verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, WMS and email.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing processes.

JOB MISSION

Responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs, conducting training sessions, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Work closely with distribution associates and distribution supervisors towards achieving consistent results.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety Program Development:

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hires and ongoing refresher courses.
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulatory requirements to continuously improve safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify specific training needs and tailor programs accordingly.
  • Prepare and distribute regular safety and process proficiency reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.
  • Act as a liaison between employees and management to address safety concerns, process-related issues, and suggestions.

Functional Process Training:

  • Identify functional processes across departments that require training interventions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance employee proficiency in these processes.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of training content.

Compliance and Investigation:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and address non-compliance issues.
  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents or incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and corrective actions taken.
  • Provide timely reports to management on incident trends and recommendations for improvement.

General:

  • Perform duties of Distribution Associates, as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years related distribution experience in a leadership position, strongly preferred. Bachelor\'s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, preferred.
  • Proven experience in safety program development and training coordination.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English fluently; ability to match numbers/letters.
  • Strong verbal and written skills utilizing appropriate demeanor, proper grammar/spelling, and respectful tone to communicate clearly and effectively; professional phone demeanor.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), WMS and email.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; detail oriented.
  • Attention to detail, learning mind-set and collaborative mindset/working style. Ability to learn and retain processes and procedures in a changing environment.
  • Sit/stand and work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • When performing Distribution Associate duties:
    • Able to operate lift equipment up to a height of 40 feet, as assigned.
    • Ability to use RF scanner or WMS workstation.
    • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
    • Able to push/pull up to 75 lbs.
    • Able to stand/walk on concrete surface for 10+ hours per day, with regular bending, reaching, and crouching.
    • Able to climb ladders up to 12 feet (where applicable).
    • Go up and down stairs and work at a height up to 20 feet on the mezzanine (where applicable).
Salt Lake City, UT Distribution Center Only Pay Range: $22.05 - $27.60 - $33.10 Hourly (actual base pay varying based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, internal equity, geographic location, and more.)
