Job summary

The State Group is seeking a Safety Supervisor to join our Buffalo, New York team. You will lead safety programs across sites, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and related regulations while actively coaching teams on best practices.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in construction safety, a degree in Safety or related field, and CSP certification preferred. The role includes 100% paid health benefits, PTO, 401(k) with match, and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction safety experience with regulatory knowledge.
  • Degree in Safety or related field; CSP certification preferred.
  • Experience in construction or union environments with fluctuating project volumes.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Card.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, confined space, hot work, excavations, and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Ability to train and communicate safety requirements and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example, ensuring safe behaviors and compliance on sites.
  • Provide SME safety support to stakeholders on job sites, including customers and contractors.
  • Oversee inspections, incident investigations, and collaborate with Risk Manager on claims.
  • Maintain audits/inspections and ensure timely closure of action items.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ISO and other regulatory requirements; lead urgent safety responses.
  • Notify leadership of potential non-compliant issues and stop unsafe conditions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead by example by demonstrating safe behaviors, ensuring compliance, and encouraging others to do the same.

  • Communicate and provide subject matter expert support to other stakeholders on job sites, including customers, general and other contractors, union representatives, and regulatory personnel.

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all inspections and incident investigations, including collaborating with the Risk Manager for workers’ compensation and other claims.

  • Maintain a summary of all audits, inspections, and other action items, and ensure timely and sustainable completion.

  • Ensure compliance with all State Group, governmental, and legal requirements (including OSHA, EPA, ISO). Lead urgent response to workers’ safety concerns.

  • Communicate any potential or non-compliant issues to the leadership team promptly.

  • Stop unsafe conditions or behaviors immediately, and promptly counsel individuals or tag out equipment to eliminate unsafe conditions.

  • Additional duties as assigned

WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN OUR TEAM

  • 5+ years of construction safety experience with a strong understanding of applicable safety regulations and policies.

  • A degree in Safety or a related field and a CSP certification are preferred.

  • Experience in construction or union environments with fluctuating project volumes is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Card.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, confined space activities, hot work, excavations, and other key safety protocols.

  • Ability to demonstrate the organization's core values through professional conduct and leadership.

  • Ability to effectively train and communicate safety requirements and protocols.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and periodic drug tests.
