Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Specialist to develop, support, and audit safety programs across projects. The role emphasizes collaboration with field crews to reinforce the “Nobody Gets Hurt” safety ethos, while ensuring compliance with OSHA/MSHA guidelines and incident investigation processes.

You will assist in daily hazard inspections, provide safety training, and help maintain documentation for safety programs across the Power Market.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30/500/510 certifications preferred or required.
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Knowledge of construction safety and current Federal and OSHA requirements.
• Proficient with Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, review, updating, and communication of the SSSP to subcontractors and crew.
• Collaborate daily with craft to promote safety program buy-in and ownership.
• Exercise Stop Work Authority to enforce policies and plans.
• Plan and problem-solve with operations using leading indicator trends.

District Overview

The Kiewit Power Market provides direct-hire and construction services for Power Generation and Distribution utilizing a union and non-union craft force. The Kiewit Power Market builds major EPC and bid-build natural gas power plants, solar fields, nuclear facilities and energy storage systems while also providing extensive power delivery services like transmission lines, substations and underground distribution throughout North America. Responsibilities

• Assist in the development, review, updating, and communication of the SSSP to everyone including subcontractors
• Collaborate with the craft every day in the field to encourage buy-in of our safety program and to support craft ownership of the safety program
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to company policies, regulations, work plans, work packs, and detailed work plans
• Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations in the field every day based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work
• Encourage, support, inspire, & advise staff and craft employees to execute the SSSP
• Assist with maintaining project files in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations and in compliance with our policies including accident/injury files
• Assist with first aid and maintain relationships with emergency medical services and clinics
• Assist with incident investigations, & implementation of effective solution
• Complete a daily documented hazard inspection and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors with implementation of corrective actions
• Review work plans, work packs, and detailed work plans prior to the start of work
• Assist and provide safety training on policies, procedures, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, & client specific requirements

Qualifications

• OSHA 30, 500 and 510 certifications
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study is preferred
• Must be legally authorized to work without requiring sponsorship for employment to begin or continue employment with our company
• Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements
• Certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician is preferred
• Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
• Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment

Base Compensation: $75,000/yr - $82,000/yr
