Job summary

The Suter Company is seeking a Safety Specialist to promote a safe working environment across production facilities in the United States. This role emphasizes compliance with occupational health, safety regulations, and company policies while developing and implementing safety initiatives.

The position requires 12 months of relevant experience and OSHA training, with a focus on hazardous materials handling, incident investigations, and training program delivery.

Qualifications

  • 12 months of experience in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or directly related field.
  • 30 hours of OSHA training or willingness to successfully complete 30 hours of OSHA training.
  • Experience with developing and implementing departmental safety regulations and/or departmental, policies and procedures.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental or safety fields preferred.
  • PC proficient with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety initiatives and programs to ensure the safety of all employees in our production facilities.
  • Monitor safety regulations and industry standards to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify risks and hazards.
  • Design safety protocols and procedures to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and provide recommendations on corrective and preventative action.
  • Monitor safety data and analyze trends to determine areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation and records.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Assist in the development of emergency response plans.
  • Inspect work areas to ensure working conditions follow Occupational Health and Safety Standards (OSHA).

CORE HOURS
  • Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
STARTING PAY RANGE
  • $55,000 - $70,000 (Annually)

The Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and company policies. This role involves identifying hazards, conducting training, investigating incidents, and implementing safety programs that protect employees and support operational excellence.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 12 months of experience in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or directly related field.

KNOWLEDGE

ABILITIES AND SKILLS
  • Ability to read, write and complete paperwork related to the role.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively collaborate with employees, managers and external agencies.

  • Technical - Ability to operate and control equipment; ability to monitor equipment to make sure it is running properly.
  • Physical Effort - Medium work: exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift or move objects.
  • Vision - far, near, and mid-range, depth perception and adequate field of vision
  • Activity - Regularly stand, use finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms, engage in repetitive motions and grasp; occasionally talk, hear, climb, kneel, crouch, lift, push and pull.

  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish is a plus.
