Job description

Role Summary

The Safety Specialist 2 will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and increasingly complex construction projects. This position will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports and performing trend analysis to support JE Dunn’s strategy, vision and values.

Key Role Responsibilities – Core

• Conduct regular walk‑through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
• Perform safety audits on assigned projects, identify, document and recommend abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; use internal safety management systems to track closures.
• Lead project‑specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
• Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractor safety programs.
• Attend project pre‑planning, progress and other relevant meetings to discuss safety matters.
• Support field leadership in implementing safety program specifics (meetings, committees, activities) and chair project safety committee.
• Monitor site safety incentive program.

Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Core

• Apply higher-level safety knowledge to identify complex safety issues and develop detailed solutions.
• Use in‑depth knowledge of equipment, laws and work processes to provide project‑specific safety recommendations.
• Employ advanced communication skills and play an active role in meetings.
• Utilize internal safety management tools to perform trend analysis, identify safety trends and propose mitigation solutions.
• Provide guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for new and existing personnel.
• Oversee multiple complex projects, including one large or complex project and/or several projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Perform work accurately, completely and timely.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations.
• Proficiency in company safety software, processes and tools (intermediate level).
• Recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
• Build relationships with team members across projects.
• Proficiency in required construction technology.
• Collaborate effectively within internal and external teams.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health‑related field (preferred).
• In lieu of the above, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• 2+ years of construction safety experience (required).
