Job summary

JE Dunn is seeking a Safety Specialist 1 to coordinate the field safety program on routine construction projects. You will conduct inspections, document hazards, and lead abatement efforts in alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.

You will support safety program implementation, supervise orientation, and help investigate incidents while coordinating with healthcare providers to return workers to work promptly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety and health-related field preferred.
  • 0-2 years construction or related experience required.
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
  • Conduct safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting and recommending abatement of hazardous conditions to internal and external clients.
  • Oversee project-specific new hire orientation and adherence to drug/alcohol policy.
  • Monitor and coordinate safety programs for prime contractors and subcontractors.
  • Attend project meetings to discuss safety-related matters and initiatives.
  • Assist in investigating project-related accidents and propose corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return-to-work.

Role Summary

The Safety Specialist 1 will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects. This position will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions and writing reports. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

  • Autonomy & Decision-Making: Follows directions and refers all exceptions to supervisor.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core

SAFETY SPECIALIST FAMILY - CORE

  • Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conducts regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
  • Conducts safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting and recommending abatement of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions to internal and external clients.Utilizes internal safety management systems to document findings and to track abatement techniques and closure.
  • Conducts project-specific new hire orientation and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance.
  • Monitors the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractors’ safety programs.
  • Attends project pre-planning, progress and other relevant project-related meetings to discuss safety-related matters.
  • Supports field leadership in the implementation of the safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees and related activities well as chairing the project safety committee.
  • Assists in the investigation of project-related accidents. Confers with supervisor to determine root cause and discuss recommendations for changes in the work processes to eliminate recurrence.
  • Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure that the worker attends treatment and is returned to work at some capacity in a timely manner. Compiles progress summary reports of injuries for supervisor.
  • Monitors site safety incentive program.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health-related field (Preferred).
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
  • 0-2 years construction or related experience (Required).
