The Safety Specialist reports to the Safety Manger / Safety Director.
Perform the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Safety Manager / Director.The Safety Specialist is accountable to the Safety Director for the satisfactory completion, maintenance and compliance of all assigned duties and safety regulations as mandated by, which include but are not limited to OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and DOL.
Aid Safety Manager/Director in designing safety protocols.
Following incidents and accidents, a construction Safety Specialist performs a thorough investigation to ensure that all required policies were followed.
Initiate and implement safety measures in work areas.
Inspect work area premises for hazardous elements.
Educate workers and employees on safety aspects. Assist in the coordination and arrangement of training and education programs. Assists the Safety Director in preparing safety manuals and guidelines.
Strictly adhere to corporate safety guidelines and procedures.
Perform additional duties assigned by Safety Director.
The candidate must have demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in using common word processing software, spreadsheet software, database applications, project and presentation software, and email, contact management and scheduling software.
Experience and knowledge of environmental and occupational health and safety, along with an established track record of success, may be considered as a substitute for the educational requirements.
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all laws surrounding construction safety then develops and implements policies, procedures and other company-wide safety standards .
Over one year and up to three years to become familiar with various aspects and responsibilities of Safety Specialist position.
A wide variety of duties involving extensive knowledge of related organizational policies and procedures and their application to cases, incidents, and accidents on a day-to-day basis.Position participates in formulating and carrying our organizational policies, programs, and objectives.Duties require the ability to work independently as well as in large groups toward safety goals and limiting workplace incidents, hazards, and accidents. Safety Specialist must devise new or modify existing methods, techniques, and procedures to meet requirements and to make related decisions guided by precedent and in some cases based on conclusions where there has been little precedent.
Under direction from the Company President and Safety Director, but the ability to work from
policies and general objectives rarely refer to superiors unless clarification or interpretation is required.
Duties at times involve the preparation of data, training material, organization, in which top management bases important decisions. Work is not subject to audit or check but involves considerable accuracy and responsibility. Initial errors would be difficult to detect and could have an adverse effect causing liability, unsafe, and unsuitable work conditions for employees and work conditions.
Outside and inside contacts involve conducting organizational policy and programs and influencing others where such improper handling can and will have a marked effect.Contacts involve dealing with people of higher rank requiring explanation, discussion, persuasion and obtaining approval.Considerable tact is required.
Full and complete access to confidential data, reports, records, plans and programs of the company which require the utmost integrity and where disclosure could lead to liability and loss of goodwill.
Moderate physical effort required, frequently lifting or moving average weight material (under twenty-five pounds).Occasionally lifting heavy weighted material (over sixty pounds) is required. Less than 30% of the time spent in a physically demanding role.
Position requires the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and grasp.The position requires the ability to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communication.This includes speaking in front of large and small groups in the training process.
Continuous mental and visual attention required to advise personnel and equipment assigned.Position requires constant alertness to personnel and job activities.
Disagreeable working conditions with continuous exposure to dust, dirt, machine noise and seasonal temperature variances. Several elements continuously present to the extent of being objectionable.
