Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. seeks a Safety Specialist to support the Corporate Safety Manager and all divisions. You will ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and customer safety requirements, update customer databases, and perform safety inspections at Mesa facilities.

The role also covers MTI shop oversight and incident investigations. You will develop safety training, lead investigations, analyze injury data, and contribute to Project Safety Execution plans while promoting a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in direct employee safety engagement and training.

Mesa seeks a Safety Specialist that is responsible for supporting the Corporate Safety Manager and all divisions within the company. This includes ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and customer safety and environmental requirements. The Mesa Safety Specialist will update customer databases monthly and stay current with customer safety practices, ensuring Mesa follows those guidelines. This position will provide support and do safety inspections at the Mesa office facilities and conduct Accident/incident investigations. The Mesa safety specialist would also provide safety oversight for MTI shops.

Responsibilities

• Create a strong safety culture by implementing workplace health and safety policies.
• Evaluate, assess, and alter safety procedures and policies to strengthen our safety culture.
• Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts.
• Prepare and conduct safety training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.).
• Track incident metrics and apply findings through statistical data and companywide communications.
• Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
• Lead accident and incident investigations to find the cause and provide lessons learned.
• Monitor compliance with policies and laws by conducting inspections
• Provide input to the contractor pre-qualification process
• Attend Pre-job kick-off meetings when possible or be available virtually
• Have input in Project Safety Execution plans
• Conduct worksite audits to identify potential risks and ensure regulatory compliance
• Develop and implement strategies to reduce or eliminate risk
• Promote safety awareness through training and informational materials
• Assist with emergency response plans.
• Serve on the Employee Health and Safety Committee.
• Support front-end use and learn back-end administration of the Safety Management Application (SMA), including forms, workflows, permissions, automations, reporting, testing, troubleshooting, and user support.
• Traveling as required to ensure all project requirements and deliverables are met.
• Other duties as assigned

Accountability

• Developing and updating required health and safety procedures.
• Ensuring compliance with all safety regulatory requirements.
• Reporting safety statistics to OSHA, customers, and company management.
• Developing and delivering needed safety training.
• Investigating safety incidents and reporting findings, including corrective actions.

Authority

• Work with the Corporate Safety Manager and with federal and state OSHA to obtain answers to safety questions and report safety data.
• Work with customer safety representatives to ensure safety compliance with customer safety requirements.
• Determine appropriate corrective actions/actions to prevent recurrence of safety incidents.
• Work with Mesa Business Units on project-related safety requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines.
• Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures.
• Good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment.
• Good organizational, leadership, and motivational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must effectively communicate with management, employees, customers, and Federal and State agencies.
• Ability to recognize and react when safety conditions need improvement.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, especially when handling an accident or incident.
• Demonstrated proficiency using a safety management application, EHS management system, or similar business applications, with technical aptitude to learn system configuration, workflows, permissions, automations, reporting, and troubleshooting

Education and Experience

• Four-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
• 4 plus years of experience in direct employee safety engagement, including training.
