Qualifications

  • 3+ years of safety experience in manufacturing, food processing, or a similar environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems.
  • Experience conducting investigations and safety audits.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred in plant environments.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Execute site-level safety programs aligned with corporate EHS strategy and regulatory requirements (OSHA, state, local).
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies through consistent field presence and documentation.
  • Lead incident investigations, including near-misses and recordables; perform root cause analysis.
  • Deliver and coordinate safety training (new hire orientation, toolbox talks, ongoing sessions).
  • Foster a behavior-based safety culture and engage employees in safety programs.
  • Balance compliance with operational realities and support contractor safety when applicable.

Position Summary

The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the execution of the organization’s environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs at the plant level. This role partners closely with operations leadership to proactively identify risks, drive behavioral safety practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

This position serves as a hands‑on, field‑facing safety resource, focused on prevention, engagement, and real‑time risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Program Execution & Compliance
  • Execute site‑level safety programs in alignment with corporate EHS strategy and regulatory requirements (OSHA, state, local)
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and standards through consistent field presence
  • Maintain OSHA logs and required documentation; support audit readiness and inspections
  • Assist in development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SOPs and safety procedures
2. Field Presence & Risk Mitigation
  • Conduct routine floor walks, job observations, and safety audits to identify hazards and unsafe behaviors
  • Partner with supervisors to correct unsafe conditions and reinforce safe work practices in real time
  • Support Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and risk assessments for new processes, equipment, and changes
3. Incident Management & Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead or support incident investigations, including near‑misses and recordables
  • Conduct root cause analysis and partner with operations to implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Track trends and provide actionable insights to reduce risk and recurrence
4. Safety Training & Engagement
  • Deliver and coordinate safety training (new hire orientation, ongoing training, toolbox talks)
  • Support development of a behavior‑based safety culture, emphasizing employee accountability and decision‑making
  • Partner with leadership to improve employee engagement in safety programs
5. Safety Culture & Communication
  • Serve as a visible safety advocate across the facility
  • Facilitate or support Safety Committee activities and initiatives
  • Reinforce safety as a core operational priority—not just compliance
6. PPE & Program Administration
  • Assess PPE needs and ensure proper usage and availability
  • Support tracking and administration of safety programs, metrics, and reporting
  • Assist with contractor safety compliance where applicable
  • Strong field presence and ability to influence at all levels
  • Practical application of OSHA and safety regulations
  • Root cause analysis and problem‑solving capability
  • Coaching and behavioral influence skills
  • Ability to balance compliance with operational realities
