Job Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Rest Area Attendant is responsible for cultivating and caring for landscaping and grounds and maintaining the rest area’s cleanliness to ensure company standards are correctly maintained while using the appropriate supplies and equipment in a responsible and efficient manner.

Priority will be given to persons with disabilities due to contract requirements.

Job Duties
  • Responsible for completing on‑site custodial and grounds contract work at the assigned location site and ensuring contract specifications are met. This includes but is not limited to cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning lunch or break rooms, collecting and removing trash, dusting, cleaning windows, climbing ladders, lawn mowing, raking, leaf blowing, picking up trash, ground upkeep, trimming, etc.
  • Assist with stripping and waxing floors and carpet cleaning if requested in the contract.
  • Report maintenance, repair or service required immediately upon discovery.
  • Provide feedback to the Supervisor concerning success or problems associated with the contract.
  • Submit reports, paperwork, and timecards to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the health and safety of staff and all visitors at the assigned site.
  • Use hazardous materials and chemicals properly and dispose of them following proper procedures.
  • Maintain all required safety and first‑aid supplies; contact the Supervisor to order replacements, as needed.
  • Utilize protective equipment as needed when performing the job (gloves, back braces, face shields, etc.).
  • Maintain supplies and custodial equipment according to OSHA standards and report any damage to the Supervisor.
  • Start work when scheduled, dress neatly and appropriately, and meet job requirements.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality based on E.Q.U.I.P. policies and contract requirements.
  • Assist the Supervisor, Area Manager and other applicable supervisory staff with all other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Cut/mow lawn using hand, power or riding mower, trim and edge walks, flower beds and walls.
  • Plant flowers.
  • Apply fertilizer to the ground to enhance growth.
  • Remove stumps, fill holes, and apply grass seed as needed.
  • Remove all landscaping debris.
  • Cut down tree limbs posing a danger.
  • Trim shrubs and pull weeds.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment utilized in groundskeeping under supervisor guidance.
  • Rake, mulch and prune the grounds as needed.
  • Water plants and grass.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • The job requires reliability, responsibility and dependability.
  • Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, materials and landscaping methods.
  • Ability to determine the tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Operational skill or ability to learn to operate riding mower, weed eater, grass edger, chain saw, stump grinder, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, wood chipper, lift, pressure washer and other basic hand and power tools.
  • Physical ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with arms and legs.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Ability to lift between 25–50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to operate various pieces of large equipment by company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ability to make repetitive movements.
  • Ability to work in awkward postures.
