Job Level: Mid Level

Home District/Group: Weeks Marine - Construction

Department: Safety

Market: Marine

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Overview

Are you passionate about protecting people, building strong teams, and developing a career in construction safety? Weeks Marine & Kiewit are looking for driven Safety Professionals to join our Northeast Construction team. We are open to a range of experience levels-from someone early in their safety career who has the right attitude and drive to learn, to an experienced Safety Coordinator, Specialist, or Manager who can bring knowledge and leadership to our projects. We can build and train the right person—and we also value experience. What matters most is finding someone who believes in our Nobody Gets Hurt culture, wants to build a long-term career, and is motivated to make a difference in the field. Our Safety Professionals work alongside Operations as a resource, coach, and partner. You will help our teams plan work, recognize critical risks, implement effective safeguards, develop our field leaders, and drive our safety programs where the work happens. Our goal is simple: Everyone goes home safe, every day.

District Overview

Weeks Marine's extensive experience, specilized equipment fleet, and marine construction capabilities allows us to support complex infrastructure projects throughout North America. As part of Kiewit, our employees also have access to significant opportunites for professional development, mentorship, training, and career growth. At Weeks Marine and Kiewit, safety is not something owned by one department. Operations owns the work with safe execution; Safety is there to support, coach, develop, and help our teams succeed.

Location

These positions will support projects throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut; FLEXABILITY between project locations is REQUIRED. You may be traveling between all three locations as needed. One of the many things that makes Kiewit's culture unique is our willingness to "go where the work is". This provides employees with exposure to different projects, teams, challenges, and career opportunities. We work to align assignments with business needs while continuing to develop each employee's skills, experience, and long term career path.

Responsibilities

Partner with project leadership, field supervision, and craft to support safe execution of the work. Learn, understand, and help drive Weeks Marine and Kiewit safety programs and expectations. Support Operations with work planning, hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and implementation of effective safeguards. Spend significant time in the field engaging with crews, understanding the work, asking questions, and helping teams find solutions. Coach and develop field leaders and employees rather than simply identifying deficiencies. Help teams understand the why behind our expectations and how they apply to the work being performed. Participate in project planning, Start Cards/JHAs, safety meetings, field engagements, and other risk-management activities. Support training and development for employees, field leaders, and project teams. Assist with incident response, investigations, learning reviews, corrective actions, and sharing lessons learned. Support implementation of programs such as fall protection, energy isolation/LOTO, confined space, lifting and rigging, material handling, and other critical-risk activities. Help identify trends, opportunities, and practical solutions that improve field execution. Build strong relationships with Operations, craft, clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders. Support regulatory compliance and help teams understand applicable OSHA and company requirements. Continue developing your own technical knowledge, leadership skills, and understanding of marine and heavy civil construction.

Qualifications

We are open to candidates with different levels of experience and backgrounds. A degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Safety, or a related field is preferred, but relevant construction, field, military, emergency response, or safety experience may also be considered. Previous experience in construction, heavy civil, marine, industrial, or similar field environments is preferred. Depending on experience level, candidates may be considered for a Safety Specialist, Safety Coordinator, or Safety Manager-level role. Preferred qualifications may include:

  • OSHA 30

  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • FIELD ROLES ONLY May work at various different locations and conditions may vary
